SHINE Youth Festival 2012 Opening‏ with Jayesslee

It's SHINE Youth Festival 2012 Opening today, I have an awesome Saturday together with the 120,000 youths present at the Launch. What a nice way to kickstart the month of July.

July is the month for youths – the month for SHINE. So let us all come together and join this big celebration, putting our dreams in action.

Organised by youth for the community, the annual Festival encourages youth to enjoy a month-long extravaganza of activities, while giving back to society.

SHINE Youth Festival will be held in the Youth month of July from 30 June to 29 July.

Let us all SHINE together in the month of July.

Wish to find out more about the series of activities lining up in July, visit my previous post on SHINE Youth Festival 2012 Media Conference to find out more.

Meet up with GF for the Cosmo Youth Parade.

Playing the live stacko at the booth.

Time for Cosmo Parade. Let's ride the wave with Cosmo Youth Parade by Mascot Parade Limited. Let me take you through the parade where Orchard Road will be transformed into a fantastical wonderland as thousands of youths and the young-at-heart dress up as characters from their favourite comic, mangaor video games to advocate their causes.

See who we met at Ngee Ann City - Bumble Bee from Transformer.

And we bumped into the Amazing Spiderman.

Hmmm, how can I not have a solo picture with Spiderman.
Transform me into Spiderwoman can?

"Don't play play hor.
Later I stun you with my web-shooter hor."

Students from West Spring Secondary School showcasing their eco-friendly side with a "dragon" made of recycled drink cans as part of the SHINE 2012 Festival Opening's COSMO Youth Parade.

We are youth, hear us roar.

That was impressive right.

Nothing is impossible. No dream is too big to achieve if we believe in it.

With Regine and Hayley at Cosmo Parade.

With StarWars character - Darth Vader, Master of the Dark Side.

Omg, it's so long since my last picture with Tracy. So nice to see her again. This time round, we finally have time to catch up with one another.

With Denise. Catching up with old friends make me happy (:

Not forgetting to have a photo with Terence and Steven.

Have a great chat with Martin, Chairperson of SHINE 2012 Steering Committee.

Meet the man behind this mega event.
And the Guest of Honour, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Chairman, National Youth Council Mr Chan Chun Sing, has arrived.

He was making his his Pledge to SHINE - ''Whatever it takes, I will develop a generation of inspired and committed youth.''

Have you make your pledge too?

Come put your words to action - http://shine.startnow.sg/

Mr Chan Chun Sing then went to the next stop, trying his hand at the Urban Sports Challenge.

Go Mr Chan!

We followed Mr Chan around to the Team Singapore booth where he encouraged and mingled with Team Singapore athletes (Olympians andParalympians) to SHINE at the London 2012 Games.

Mr Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Chairman, National Youth Council, commented that he felt great to see young people combining fun with a cause. Their efforts to reach out and make a difference will help build a more inclusive Singapore.

Time to fire up your passion!

We had an opening address by Martin Tan, NYC Council Member and Chairperson of SHINE 2012 Steering Committee.

Are you ready for the Launch of SHINE Youth Festival by GOH, Mr Chan Chun Sing and Welcome Party.

Ready, set, fire!

Let's kickstart Dell-Intel Youth Concert with an opening dance performance.

I have been wanting to learn dance for a longest time but no action has been done. It's time to step out of their comfort zones and pursue my dreams and passion, and to become shining examples for youth action in Singapore.

And the host for the night - Daniel Ong.
He was also the host for SHINE Youth Festival 2011.

Popular regional and local artistes will thrill the crowds at the Dell-Intel Youth Concert.

First up: Clarence Liew, our very own Singapore YouTube star.

The 19-year-old musician earned his fame after posting music videos that showed off his smooth vocals.
Do you know that he was a self-professed introvert and only overcame his inhabitations after he began performing on stage.

That's why nothing is impossible to achieve.

Let's get serenaded by his strong vocals.

Next up, Jack and Rai.

I have seen the pair before at last SHINE Youth Festival concert too.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of this duo group. Jack & Rai came together in 2002 to form an acoustic duo with a chemistry that borders telepathic. Their easy-going and engaging natures makes any audience feel right at home when watching them.

As always, they look forward to spreading more love and music in the years to come. Let's rock the night with Jack and Rai's performance.

And the moment where everyone was waiting for. The famous YouTube Sensation is here in Singapore:

JAYESSLEE!

Meet the twin sisters from Australia!!! Omg, I'm so happy to see them in person and at such a close distance.

In 2008 the duo discovered the world of YouTube. Fascinated by the concept of connecting with an unseen audience all over the world, they created their first account under the name "Jayesslee". The name was their attempt to be clever - fusing both of their initials and spelling it out.

Sonia and Janice Lee.

Witness their passion in music and be inspired through their music.

Took a short video of this song - Nobody.

I'm amazing by their singing. They have really beautiful and sweet voice that will melt every heart of individual.
I gonna say I ♥ Jayesslee.

Sweetest voice ever.

And I loved the version of Payphone sang by them.

I'm at a payphone trying to call home
All of my change I spent on you
Where have the times gone
Baby it's all wrong, where are the plans we made for two?

Beautiful voice and gorgeous girls. How can I not love them?

Jayesslee obliged the request of fans by singing one more song when we asked for encore.

The concert ended with the last song - We Are Young.

We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

This year SHINE Youth Festival was a great success. It's yet another unforgettable day and experience for me. Thanks for all the hard work and efforts put in to make this event a success.

SHINE Youth Festival, see you again next year.

Friday 22/6/12

Having a dinner tonight at Resort World Sentosa Compass Ballroom.

In da bus, we were all ready to set off.

With Khadijah. We had so much fun today putting on makeup together.

If today's theme is movie character, then I shall be Women In Black.
Bang! Bang! Bang!

While waiting, lets take a group snap.

Boon Teck was trying out the 大头娃娃 mask.

Lately, I'm into the mask fever.
Loved trying them out.

**

Got ourselves seated ad it's time to dig in:

Traditional Thick Soup with Seafood Treasures.

Shredded sea cucumber, crabmeat, black fungus, shredded mushrooms, dried scallop.

Steamed Live Sea Bass in Spring Onion Soy Sauce.

Stir-Fried Prawns with Celery and Bell Pepper in XO Sauce.

Braised "Bai Ling" with Seasonal Vegetables in Brown Sauce.

Feeling so full after dinner, so I wanted to go back home and rest. So I gave it a to join the others to St. James.

Thursday 28/6/12

Yeah, it's time for movie again. I had not been watching movie for such a long time.
Thanks GF for the invitation to the movie.

Before the movie starts, we have the opportunity to attend the meet and greet session of the Formula Drift drivers.

In conjunction with the movie premiere of MOTORWAY, the top drivers from Japan and USA, along with drifters from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and our very own Singapore, will be here an exclusive autograph session with the fans.

Meet the famous drifters. I'm gonna queue up to get their autograph.

This driver was super nice, he gave us a soft toy each. Omg. I loved it so much. Though I know I am very old, but I'm still a kid in heart. I still feel happy receiving soft toy ♥

Synopsis

With car chase sequences shot guerrilla style, without permits or road closures, throughout the public streets of Hong Kong late at night, "Motorway" is an action-packed drama that follows in the footsteps of Soi Cheang's last work, "Accident".

This film stars Shawn Yue and Anthony Wong as a rookie police pursuit driver chasing down a legendary getaway driver through the streets of Hong Kong. Cheung is an overconfident rookie in the Stealth Riders, a secret police unit consisting of the best drivers in the force that targets underworld racing and fugitives on the run. Jensen is a legendary getaway driver, who's never been caught before his retirement 15 years ago. When Cheung chances upon Jensen one day, he thinks his day has finally come.

More details

Released date:12 Jul 2012
Genre: Action, Crime, Drama
Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 1 hour 30 min
Distributor: Shaw Organisation
Director: Soi Cheang
Cast: Anthony Wong, Josie Ho, Shawn Yue, Barbie Hsu

My rating: 3.5/5

Barbie Hsu was playing the role as a surgeon, and she only appear for a few scenes to provide a possible romantic interest with Shawn Yue. Their scenes are so little, perhaps because the main highlight of the movie is not about the romance but about car chase.

The movie is about the story of how Cheung, an overconfident rookie driver who loves to do things in his own way at very fast pace, changed and become matured in the process of learning the driving skills from the retiring cop.

Overall, I find the movie quite entertaining and I enjoyed all the amazing car stunts in the movie. Especially the sharp 90 degree turn in the alley, but please don't try to learn it.
The action-packed stunts keep us in a moderate suspense and I think that it is worth watching.

Motorway will be released in Singapore on 12 July 2012, do keep a lookout for it.
