Happenings in November - Fantastic Beast + SG-JP Music Mix 2016

Wednesday 2/11/16

After a hearty dinner at Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe, V and I headed over to The Cathay for a movie. We decided to watch 'Doctor Strange'.

A former neurosurgeon, Dr. Stephan Strange, has a successful career until a devastating car accident changed his life. His hands are ruined which left him having trembling hands. He could never become a doctor again.

He embarks on a journey of healing only to be drawn into the world of the mystic arts.

The Ancient One shows him the world he never thought will exist. This makes Strange regained hopes that he could actually recover and live back his old lives. I must say the visual effects was stunning.

Strange is known for not following rules and he went overboard by stealing the sacred books and cast forbidden magic. He then learnt about Kaecilius, The Ancient One’s former student, and the mission of the group.

The movie placed a lot of emphasis on the graphic from the stunning landscape to twirling fold to the magic. The action packed scene will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Overall, it's still a nice movie. This is quite different from other Marvel's movies. People who likes action packed movie and visual effect will like this movie.

Thursday 3/11/16

Make a journey to the east to Changi Village for a relaxing afternoon.

Nice sea view. I always love being near the beach, admiring the view.

I was back to bowling alley, it has been 3 years since my last bowling session.
We played 2 rounds of bowling session. My skill started to pick up after a few rounds of going into the drain. Overall, I have an enjoyable time playing bowling with the team and watching others played too.

Sunday 27/11/16

Headed over to VivoCity for our Sunday date. After rounds of walking, we went to Honeymoon Dessert for sweet cold treats. I haven't eat this for a long time, I miss their traditional Hong Kong desserts.

I have coconut juice sago & grass jelly with green tea ice cream.
I like this very much as it has a well balance of sweetness from the coconut juice sago and strong flavour of green tea ice cream.

Dinner was settled at Menya Musashi.
Menya Musashi offer a selection of 3 soup bases for their ramen – White (original), Black (infused with garlic oil) and Red (spicy) to suit the different taste buds of the diners. I always go for the white base as I love their flavourful broth.

After dinner, it's time for movie - Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them.

Fantastic Beasts is the first prequel of a series of films based on the companion books to J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.

Being a fan of Harry Potter series, how can I give this movie a miss?
The movie took place in New York in 1926, 70 years before the Harry Potter enrolled at Hogwarts. Newton Scamander had been travelling the world in research of magical creatures, he entered New York and the magical journey began.

I find that the movie is just so-so only, not really that fantastic as compared to Harry Potter series. Nevertheless, I still have a great weekend spent. A perfect way to end of my Sunday and start of school holiday.

Wednesday 30/11/16

Meeting up with the girls again for consecutively 2 days.

We were here at The Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall for a concert - SG-JP Music Mix 2016. My first visit to to Victoria Theatre.

SG-JP Music Mix 2016 is a collaboration between Singapore and Japan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomacy. The performing artistes have a mixture of the musicians from Singapore and Japan.

We were seated early.
Among the performing artistes, 3 are from Singapore and 2 are from Japan. They are Olivia Ong, Dick Lee, Shabir, Hideki Togi and Sachiyo.

With Tracy. Thanks for bringing me along to this concert.

We enjoyed the second segment where many of the familiar songs like 新加坡派, 细水长流, Rasa Sayang, Chan Mali Chan and Home were sang.

Feel so good that exam is over, I could go out freely without having the need to rush home and continue my studies.

Food Review: Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe

Made my second visit back to Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe, an authentic Thai cuisine meal serving cafe situated at Aljunied Avenue 2. This is definitely a place for Thai food lover and residents staying in the east. We were here to try the new dishes that Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe has come up with.

Read my first visit here.

Tried bandung previously, so this time round I went for Thai Milk Tea. My all time favourite choice of drinks.
My friends ordered lemongrass drink.

Here are the new dishes that we have tried out:

Thai Sambal Sea Bass - $Seasonal Price

The sea bass was coated with sambal which immediately spice up our appetite when consumed. The spice level was bearable and was really shiok. The sea bass skin was still crispy while the inner flesh remained moist and fresh.

Kaeng Som Cha Om - $18

Spicy food lovers gonna love this soup that contain omelette, prawns and vegetables. The spicy soup was served piping hot. It has a spicy and sour flavour that leave a fierce lingering after taste. Though very spicy, we still love drinking it.

Stir-Fry Broccoli with Scallops - $20

Time to have some veggies to go with our meal consisting of broccoli, scallops, mushroom and carrot. I love the scallops, very chewy and soft.

Cold Tofu with Special Thai Seafood Sauce - $15

We tried this during our last visit.
The gravy enhanced the flavour of the cold tofu. Very delicious.

Thai Fried Chilli Fish Head - $28

The fried chilli fish head has a strong kick of fury and has a crunchy texture. The chilli added a bombastic flavour to the fish head. My only gripe was that it has many bones so have to be careful when consume it.

I love seeing our table filled with many food.

Stir-fry Cabbage with Thai Sweet Fish Sauce - $10

I'm never a veggie lover but this stir-fry cabbage tasted really nice. It tasted flavourful just on its own together with the Thai sweet fish sauce. Simple yet delightful dish.

Jade Noodles - $6 per portion

The above is for 3 portions.
My first time eating noodle in jade green. I like how the noodle was not over greasy and the soft texture. The roasted pork was very chewy and tender. The jade noodle and BBQ pork was a perfect match together.

Here were some of the all-time favourite current dishes:

BBQ Pork Belly - $18

The BBQ pork was still as tasty as ever. Well-coated with BBQ sauce, the pork belly tasted juicy and yummy.

LaLa Bee Hoon - $18

Don't be deceived by the plain looking bowl of lala bee hoon, this dish actually gave a strong punch of spiciness when ate, contributed by the white pepper used in the ingredient. The lala was tender and juicy.

Deep Fried Kang Kong with Special Thai Sauce - $10

I missed this cracker-like snacks dish. It keeps me wanting to come back for more. The crispiness and crunchiness was what that got me hooked up, can't stop myself from eating.

It was a joyful tasting session with the girls.
Do give it a try when you drop by Alijunied area or wanting to try out authentic Thai cuisines.

Johor Bahru KSL City Mall: D' Shanghai Dim Sum + Imperial Reflexology

Finally the day is here, the day where I finished my exam. I finished my last paper yesterday at 6pm and I have 2 months of school holiday. No need to worry about assignment and school works over the next 2 months.

My weekend is back, a time for us to relax. I can now start to enjoy my weekend again. My ideal way of spending my Saturday will be a day to relax, have a hearty meal and enjoy the time doing my favourite pastimes to keep us gear up for the start of coming week.

The place I want to go after I finished my exam is Johor Bahru (JB), I want to go in for feasting and shopping. With exchange rate of S$1: RM$3.1, we can feast without worrying that the bill will become a bomb.

Wearing t-shirt in.
I tried to dress simple each time I went to JB. Good thing to have my wardrobe stock up with a fair amount of t-shirts. They will come in handy one day.

I have been travelling to Malaysia a lot this year, so happy each time I visit.

My goodness, finally cleared JB custom after 3 hours. No idea why is it so crowded today, it took us 2 hours of waiting at JB custom. Not a wise idea to go in at 1pm. I don't want to go in at this timing again.

Even the taxi queue also so long.
There was a couple in front of us going to KSL, they asked if we were keen to share a taxi and we agreed on it. We looked like a family when standing together where the parents are bringing their 2 children out.

The first thing we did when we reached KSL was to look for money changer, followed by hunting for food. I was so hungry because I skipped my lunch in the hope that we can reached JB early.

Been craving for dim sum a long time, so I suggested to have late lunch cum early dinner at D'Shanghai Dim Sum.

KSL L2-132

It is located right besides MBO cinema.

After 15 minutes of waiting, food were served.
Time for a feast.

I loved the mango prawn roll.  Not only was it well fried, I enjoyed the savoury of the prawn and juicy sweet mango combination.

Fried avocado rolls is a must ordered when come here.
It was flavoursome with a tinge of sweetness from the avocado. The crispy exterior made every mouthful so crunchy.

Siew mai.

Liu sha bao.
The bun was filled with custard salted egg that gave a savoury taste when eat with the bun. So filling and delicious.

With my stomach filled, it's time for shopping spree. I managed to get 2 tops from one of the shops at RM50++

After shopping, we settled down for dessert at Bibingsu Korean Desserts & Snacks.

KSL L1-102

I missed the Korean shaved ice dessert, so I wanted to try it at KSL.

Injeolmi bingsu at RM16.90.
A very generous portion, indeed a sweet treat. Coming to JB is always about feasting and eating our heart out.

Since the time was still early and we were done walking the mall, we decided to went for a foot massage and relax ourselves.

We have our foot massage done at Imperial Reflexology.

Imperial Reflexology
御足轩
LG-17

We opted for a 30 minutes foot massage which was at a reasonable price.

This was my first time doing purely just foot massage.
Doing foot reflexology is good for our health as it promotes blood circulation.

The experience was great and I enjoyed it.
I was dozing off while the therapist was massaging my foot.

We then took a taxi back to City Square to buy some snacks before heading back to Singapore. The experience and spending in JB has compensated the hours of waiting at the custom. I would want to come back again.

JB, see you again soon.
