Happenings in April - Bumbu + Pacific West FOODball Fever + Wa Cafe

Friday 20/4/18

Today's lunch was a sumptuous affair with the team at Bumbu Restaurant @ Telok Ayer St. It was my first time dining at the Thai-Indonesian eatery. Bumbu is an antique-theme restaurant serving quality Thai-Indonesian cuisine at affordable prices. It was full house during lunch hour.

We ordered a sumptuous spread for 9 of us which includes Prawn Cake, Chilli Basil Chicken, Steamed Fish Spicy Lime sauce and Sambal Kang Kong.

The Steam Fish was moist and tender, we helped ourselves with it and peeled off the fresh from the fish.

Tahu Telor.
This was a very nice dish where the cubes of tofu were drizzled in a sweet sauce and combined with fried crispy beaten eggs, cucumbers, and carrots. This dish was perfect except that the sauce was too sweet for us.

My favourite Coconut Ice Cream to end off our meal, a sweet treat on a hot day.

It was a great lunch indulgence, all of us enjoyed the food here very much. I'm glad that we found this delicious Thai-Indonesian cuisines. Thanks Gina for the lunch treat too.

Ended the night with dinner at Pasta Mania. I had Aglio Olio Turkey Bacon ($9.20+). The amount of Turkey Bacon given was generous, every mouthful guaranteed bites of Turkey Bacon.

Saturday 21/4/18

A stay home Saturday.
闭关 period has once again began, I spent my weekend at home doing revision to prepare for my exam in May.

姑姑 came over in the afternoon for visit and got me Grilled Chicken McWrap where the grilled chicken was layered between crisp lettuce, mixed vegetables, sliced tomato and wrapped up in a whole grain tortilla.

Took a break from studies and headed to nearby coffeeshop for dinner. Bf and I have dinner at zichar stall. I had Cereal Fish Rice ($4.90). It was quite dry without any sauce drizzled. We ordered Prawn Paste Chicken ($5) for sharing too. The chicken wing was good and valuable for money.

We also chanced upon bf's coach and we accompanied them for dinner. Having short break from studies feel good. Time for mugging again, one more month to go.

Sunday 22/4/18

I visited FairPrice Xtra at Jurong Point for Pacific West FOODball Fever Roadshow. At the roadshow, we can try Pacific West’s cheesy fish fillets from Australia.

Pacific West's range of products has become a family's choice, it gives customers the best culinary experience with the food range that they offer. Pacific West is widely available in the Asia Pacific Region, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand and the Middle East.

In addition, Pacific West is organizing a FOODball Fever Contest where prizes worth more than S$10,00 is waiting to be won!! One of the top prizes include fantabulous trip to your favourite football country. One just need to purchase minimum 2 packets of Pacific West products from any FairPrice outlets in a single receipt.

To join in the fun of the FOODball Fever, we wore their t-shirt on the spot. With Cookie and GF.

Chef Geric Law from Hyatt Hotel was also at the roadshow where he showcased a cooking demo on how we can prepare Pacific West's cheesy fish fillets at home using simple ingredients.

The end product.
Just express your creativity and you can whip up a good meal at home too.

It was so flavoursome that I help myself with a few sticks.

We have been meeting each other regularly for lunch but didn't have the chance to take photo together. Today's roadshow provide us a good opportunity for welfie.

A photo with Chef Geric, promoting on Pacific West's Cheezy Fish Fillets. We all love it so much, just a small bite got us keep going back for more.

Go for all!!!!
Wish all of you good luck in the contest as well as in World Cup bet. Huat ah!

Thanks GF for the photo, today was a great catch up.

Friday 27/4/18

We tried out another new place for lunch at Wa Cafe @ Chinatown Point.

Also known as Watanabe Coffee, Wa Cafe offers traditional Japanese and Western fusion cuisine. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes.

I had Ice Matcha Latte, I love the aroma and taste. The caffeine in it will prevent me from food coma later on.

I always have a liking for Japanese Curry Rice so that's why I ordered Pork Katsu Curry Rice. The Pork Katsu was crispy and the curry was not too spicy. Everything was just all right. I paid $17.54 for the lunch.

Thankfully I have a filling lunch because I worked until 9.30pm that night. I have never been so stressful throughout my working life. I was apologetic towards bf because we were supposed to meet for dinner at 7.30pm and I couldn't leave office due to unfinished work. Today was our last Friday date yet I spoiled everything.

We managed to find Ban Mian's stall still opening at the coffeeshop around 10 plus, so we quickly gobbled the food and went home straight. There is early closure due to train maintenance, we need to quickly catch the train ride home.

Thanks bf for being so supportive of me. Though I know that you have a lousy 2 hours, you didn't flared the anger on me and even let me have a shoulder to cry on. I felt so miserable and suffocating. What should I do?
Sob Sob!!!

Saturday 28/4/18

Couldn't go out during the weekend, so we went to the hawker centre for dessert to sweeten our weekend.

I have a sweet tooth and soft spot for dessert. I have my favourite Chendol while bf had Sea Coconut.

A bottle of Go Shot NeuroEnergy to promote my mental cognitive performance, allowing me to reach peak performance for my revision.

April has been a miserable month for me, hope May can treat me better.

The golden age of circus has approached Singapore this April captivating audiences of all ages with CIRCUS 1903.

Thanks Base Entertainment for the tickets.
We need some magical moments to light up our life because..... life is full of circus (circles). That's what makes me love watching circus.

Circus 1903 brought a huge cast displaying the most unique, amazing and dangerous circus acts from all over the world. The cast made up of strong men to contortionists, acrobats to musicians, high wire and many more.

The first performance brought us back to the setting of 1903 and wow-ed us with their amazing stunts using the wooden plank.

This performance got us adrenaline thrilling and cliffhanger, leaving us having cold sweat while watching his performance. It is definitely not easy to balance on the rolling barrel and he did a great job.

The performance from the aerialist really gave me goosebumps, she was so flexible to the extent that some stunts made me feel like I was watching horror show.

One of the highlights was definitely the sensational puppetry Elephants. The front view of the Elephant really looked so real till I have to take a second look to confirm.
Rest assured that no live animal were being brought to the stage, it's a very cruel thing to do to these animals, they are not train to be a puppet or mode of transport. That's why I always say no to animal riding.

This performance got the audience roared in laughter, his act was really entertaining and hearty.

Th high wire performance was amazing. Riding a bicycle on a wire was not an easy task, left alone using a pole to do a flip and balance in between the bicycle. My mouth was wide open when I watched this performance.

Circus 1903 is definitely not a show to be missed, the show is suitable for all ages and especially love by the kids. It was a great show with many chilling and entertaining performances. The casts have put in a lot of efforts in bringing us the perfect performance. Bring your family and loved ones to catch this show.

Catch Circus 1903: The Golden Age of Circus at Sands Theatre from now to 29 April 2018.

Food Review: Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo at Bishan

Journey to the North.

I met up with my blogger friends (GF, Claressa and CK) for a flavoursome lunch at Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo, which is located at S-11 Bishan 504 Food Court. The food court is very accessible, it is just 5 minutes walk away from Bishan MRT.

Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo is a newly opened stall in S-11 Bishan 504 Food Court. They are opened from 9.30am till 9.30pm daily.
We were there during lunch hours and Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo has garnered the most queue among all the stalls and people just keep coming. This really makes me want to try out their Yong Tau Foo. We went to join the queue when it was less crowded.

First up was to choose our choice of ingredients.
The minimum number of ingredients we are required to choose is 5 pieces + noodles/rice at a cost of $3.60.
Any additional ingredients added will be $0.60 per piece.

The lady boss has shared with us that the food items are freshly prepared every morning to cater for daily consumption.

Here are my selection of ingredients, one of the must try is their meat ball, highly recommended by the lady boss.

After finish choosing the ingredients, next will be to choose the noodles/rice and the soup base.
For noodle, I opt for yi mian. It is quite rare that yi mian is offered for Yong Tau Foo, hence I immediately went for it when I know they offered yi mian.

For soup base, one can go for
- Dry/soup
- Curry laksa
- Ma la

Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo has also personalized their bowls, trays and utensils with their logo, it made us feel very homely and connected. It gave us a feel of having comfort food at home.

My Yong Tau Foo was finally here. The bowl of Yong Tau Foo came in a big bowl and looked so inviting, I can't wait to sink my teeth into it.

The taste of the broth definitely contribute to the essence of a bowl of good Yong Tau Foo. The Curry Laksa broth gave a good punch upon the first sip. It was so delicious and contained robust flavours. The noodle and the ingredients were soon infused with the broth, giving us an explosion of  fiery taste with another mouthful. Do not worry, the spiciness is still within our limit.

A delicious and satisfying lunch needs not be an expensive meal. A meal within $5 can achieve the same outcome. Thanks Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo for having us at your stall.

If you happen to be Bishan, do drop by Xian Mei Yong Tau Foo to try out their Yong Tau Foo.

Happenings in March & April - Rena's First Birthday + JB Taiwan Nostalgia Cafe

Thursday 29/3/18

I have late lunch today as I was tied up for work, we went for our lunch at 2pm. We settled for Korean restaurant for our lunch and we have army stew.

We ordered Army Stew ($12++) that comes in individual portion. The army stew contained ingredients of pork, sausages, luncheon meat, maggie mee and etc. Quickly head back to work again after finish our meal.

Saturday 31/3/18

We were planning to go JB for shopping and dinner today. However, we decided to call off this trip last minute because Grandma was in hospital and she needed to be warded for checkup.

My relatives have came over to my place for dinner and this little one came too. I didn't get to see Xinru last week during her first month celebration, glad to see her today.
As the hospital cannot accommodate so many of us, only 6 of them went to visit Grandma while the young ones stayed at home.

Playing with Krislyn, she is now more open to play with people unlike the past where she only stick with her parents.

Sunday 1/4/18

April fool day was a busy day for me.
I started my day with the celebration party for Rena's first birthday. We reached Jasmine's place at 1pm for the lunch celebration, it was held at the open area below their block.

The theme was in Jasmine's favourite character - LINE Friends.
Jasmine is a big fan of LINE Friends, she has many collectibles in her home.

We helped ourselves to the buffet spread.

Even the birthday cake was in LINE Friends' theme.
The birthday cake was so vibrant and colourful.

Time for birthday cake cutting.
Everyone gathered around to sing birthday song for Rena.

Happy birthday, Rena.
It's just the first of many birthdays, have a blissful one this year. May you grow up well.

After the celebration, we went home to rest for awhile before heading out for early dinner with the family. We left home 5pm for our dinner at Telok Blangah. The reason for having dinner early was to visit Grandma at hospital later on.

We ordered a plate of toufu.
We loved their gravy and drizzled it on our rice so that it won't taste so dry.

We ordered a total of 5 dishes for 5 pax to share.
Right after the dinner, we made our way down to Singapore General Hospital to visit Grandma. Only a maximum of 4 visitors are allowed at one time so we have to take turn to go up to visit Grandma. KP's family were there too.

We stayed until 7pm and left for my cousin to go up. Thankfully, Grandma is okay and will be discharged in 2 days time.

Wednesday 4/4/18

It's Korean cuisine again.
We tried on a new restaurant, BBQ Hyang Yeon Korean Restaurant.

Hyang Yeon means "invite people to the place of great food" in Korean. Hyang Yeon offers a healthy culinary culture by having selection of of grains, vegetables and toppings to suit the nutritional needs and taste preferences of each customer while maintaining the original taste of Korea.

I ordered a D.I.Y set that comes with a main course, white cabbage, white rice, soup of the day and side dish set at S12++.

I have Jaeyuk Bokkeum for my main. The portion of the grilled marinated pork was generous, making it a hearty meal. But beware of the spiciness, after eating a few pieces, my tongue felt a hot sensation that slow down my pace of consumption.

There are a total of 4 different choices for side dish. I have chosen set B which comes with Sausage, Spinach, Potato and Anchovy.

Thursday 5/4/18

Grab down to Millenia Walk for lunch at Kith Cafe. This time round, I tried on something different apart from the usual spaghetti.

I have Poached Eggs and Avocado ($16++) where the sourdough was toppled with crushed avocado, roma tomatoes, kale walnut pesto and poached egg.

Saturday 7/4/18

Look who came over to my house for visit today?

Amber was here to visit Grandma.
She just have her haircut and her fringe become so short. Nevertheless, she still looked so cute.
I have a great time playing with her.

I have been wanting to try Taiwan Restoran ever since my last visit to Johor Bahru (JB), so I decided to travel in to JB today to satisfy my cravings for Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Taiwan Nostalgia Cafe is located at level 3 near the escalator that lead us back to the checkpoint. 徐师傅台湾小吃 make me miss the food in Taiwan.

Minced Meat Rice is a must order when coming to Taiwan Cafe. It may looked ordinary but this was surprisingly nice. The rice was served with a braised egg and minced meat. Mix the rice well so that the soy sauce will covered the rice evenly.

Matcha Macchiato to go with our meal.

Cheese Omelette and Crispy Salt and Pepper Chicken (鹹酥雞) for sharing. I never miss out on ordering popcorn chicken, it's my favourite. The hearty meal costs only RM52.15.

Now you know why I am willing to travel her just to have dinner?
