Hong Kong Guide: 19 Places To Visit & Eat

Hello guys, I'm back from my 8D7N Hong Kong trip.

It was a very relaxing trip where we just take things slow to appreciate the beauty of this city. Hong Kong is a place where we can explore by ourselves as all the places of interest are easily accessible via MTR.

I have compiled all the best places to visit and best into a blog posts so that you can plan your Hong Kong trip easily. If you would like to read on my full experience, do visit my individual posts on Hong Kong.

1. Explore the street of Mong Kok

Mong Kok is one of the best shopping places in Hong Kong, it is home to Ladies Market which has over 100 stalls selling clothing, accessories and souvenirs. All my shopping was done here.

2. Eat at Tim Ho Wan

Tim Ho Wan is best known for their BBQ pork buns. The most delicious part was definitely the crispy bun. Beneath the crispy outer was soft and juicy char siew. The other dishes were tasted delicious too. We have a yummy dinner to conclude our day.

3. Eat at Kam Wah Cafe

A trip will never be complete without trying the local delights. We made a visit to Kam Wah Cafe 金華冰廳. Kam Wah Cafe is famous for their bolo bun and egg tart. The legendary bolo bun 菠萝包 that Kam Wah Cafe is famous for. It was served with a slice of butter sandwiched in between the bun.

The french toast was fluffy and go perfectly with the butter on top of the top, creating a very buttery taste. It was one of the nicest french toast that I had.


The exterior of the egg tart was not too crumbly while the interior remains soft and filled with egg custard.

Just like other cha chaan teng, the food was served fast and we were required to share seat with others. Serve fast and eat fast is the lifestyle in Hong Kong's cha chaan teng.

4. Laze the afternoon at On Dog Dog Cafe

Admission fee upon entering is HKD150 which comes with a drink, a side dish and main course as well as unlimited time playing with the dogs. On Dog Dog Cafe housed 5 dogs (2 Huskies, 2 Akita and 1 Shiba) and a ginger cat. I love going to dog cafes because it gives me the opportunity to mingle around with the dogs which I don't have a chance to do since I don't own a pet at home.

Price is on a steep side when visiting dog cafes, but it's okay to splurge once in a while especially when we are in overseas to enjoy the fun and take many photos for memories. These experience will make the damage worthwhile.

5. Night strolling at Victoria Harbour

Victoria Harbour covers from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai, you can admire the harbour scenery from either location. Catch A Symphony of Lights which will start at 8pm daily. A Symphony of Lights is a multimedia show and signature icon for Hong Kong, showcasing the vibrancy and glamorous night vista of the city.

6. Photo opportunity at Snoopy's World

It was a small amusement park where you can take photo with all the Snoopy figures. Kids and Snoopy fans will love this.

7. Tram to The Peak

Waiting to board the Peak Tram. We purchased the ticket at HKD90 per pax. Visiting tourist attractions in Hong Kong is very pricey, prepare more cash if you want to visit these places. On board the famous Peak Tram that fascinate us. The tram was going up in a very steep slope, the building that we passed by were all slanted diagonally. It was as though we were going up the track of roller coaster except there was no sliding down.

8. Attraction to Madame Tussauds

The entrance ticket was a bomb, it costs HKD280 (S$50) per pax. The Hong Kong branch houses nearly 100 wax figures of internationally known personalities featuring Hong Kong Glamour, Music Icons, Historical and National Heroes, The Champions and World Premiere. We have a great an hour plus spent in the wax museum.

9. Eat at Yat Lok Roast Goose

Since we were at Central, we went to find the famous Roast Goose stall, Yat Lok. I ordered the famous Roast Goose rice, there was a thick layer of fats hide within the layers of lean meat and the sauce drizzled was flavoursome. Food was not bad but very pricey.

10. Dessert stop at Honeymoon Dessert

We spotted Honeymoon Dessert at level 3 so we went in to have desserts and take a break. We ordered 2 desserts that are not found in Singapore - Strawberry Sago and Green Tea with Soya Beancurd. We paid HKD73 for the dessert.

11. Cable car ride to Ngong Ping

The visit to Ngong Ping was definitely the highlight of our Hong Kong trip. We purchased the 360 fun pass standard adult ticket HKD255 (S$45.53) per pax. The ticket consists of  a round trip cable car ride, show for motion 360, stage 360 and walking with buddha. The cable car ride to Ngong Ping was about 25 minutes. Throughout the ride, we caught sight of the deep blue sea and lush green mountainside of Lantau Island underneath our feet. 

12. Climb up to The Big Buddha

The Big Buddha, also known as Tian Tan Buddha, is the most iconic attraction of Lantau Island. There is a total of 268 steps to reach the three-storey pedestal to visit the Buddha and the exhibition hall. Besides visiting the Buddha, we got to enjoy the boundless scenery of Lantau and South China Sea. It was worth the sweat climbing up and be treated to the beautiful sight, away from the hustle and bustle of city.
It was an enjoyable day trip to Ngong Ping, so scenic and memorable.

13. Make a trip to Disneyland

Disneyland is a place that captured my heart with childhood memories came flooding back. Disney melody rang in the air as we entered Disneyland. 

14. Eat at Dim Dim Sum

I was so glad that we came here because it served a wide variety of dim sum choices and best dim sum that I tried so far. It was a satisfying dinner and our greatest achievement for today.

15. Eat at One Dim Sum

An affordable dim sum restaurant that was packed with crowds. They used to be one Michelin star. The restaurant was a small scale one, our night was spent here enjoying the Cantonese dim sum. Dim sum was a staple food we have in Hong Kong and it definitely left a deep impression during this trip. One Dim Sum is indeed an affordable dim sum restaurant that offers quality dim sum. Recommended to visit.

16. Trip to Macau The Venetian

The architectural design was inspired by The Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. The resort's theme evolved around Venice, making it one of Macau's hottest tourist spots. It was owned by the American Las Vegas Sands company.

The trip to The Venetian was nothing but amazing, everything about this hotel was so gorgeous and incredible. It was possibly the most luxurious hotel that I ever stepped into. Stepping into Sands Shoppes made me think of the Korean drama, Boys Over Flowers. They came to The Venetian to film the drama and on board this gondola ride, riding through the canal of the Shoppes at the Venetian. 

17. Try the Portuguese egg tarts at Macau

We stopped by Lord Stow's Bakery and Cafe for tea break.

They are famous for their Portuguese egg tarts. To complete my trip to Macau, we can't miss out on their Portuguese egg tarts. The egg tart has a flaky and crispy exterior with a soft and moist interior. Handle with care when consumption as the egg tart will break apart when we bite it.

18. Visit Macau Eiffel Tower at The Parisian Macao

The highlight of The Parisian Macao is definitely Macau Eiffel Tower, a replica of Paris' most famous icon. The large observation deck was located on the 7th floor and a small deck located on the 37th floor at the top of the tower (ticket price: HKD100). The City of Lights, the City of Love. Paris is at the heart of romance.

The replica is only a half scale of the famous Eiffel Tower's landmark. 

19. Trip to Lamma Island

Lamma Island is located to the southwest of Hong Kong Island and it is the third largest island of Hong Kong. It is a traditional fishing villages and hidden Hong Kong scenery. Lamma Island is away from the hustle and bustle city. Time seemed to slow down when we were here. Lamma Island is house to a streetful of seafood restaurants, arts and crafts stores that can be found once we alighted at the pier.
