8 Crabs Food Review: Sri Lanka Crab and Zi Char Delivery

With the extension of Circuit Breaker, we have another month of staying home to go. Usually we will cook our meal at home or takeaway from the hawker centre, but recently I have been engaging more of food delivery to give my family a little break from the preparation of food and to lend our support to our local F&B providers, as well as to indulge in good food once in awhile.

My family is a huge fans of zi char as it was something that we grew up having, the Chinese home-style dishes cooked upon order. So when 8 Crabs approached me for collaboration, I immediately agree.

8 Crabs provides crab, seafood and zi char delivery service serving Singaporeans island-wide. They have a one driver to an order policy across their 12 kitchens, this will guarantee that we receive our delivery order in just one hour time. Delivery time starts from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and continues from 6pm to 11pm.

The delivery charges are as follows:
- Free delivery: For orders at S$120 and above
- Same day or Next Day delivery: S$ 8.00
- Express 1 Hour delivery: S$ 18.00
- Re-delivery due to failed delivery: S$ 20.00

I opt for contactless delivery to be between 6pm to 7pm and the order arrived just 10 minutes before 6pm. Earlier arrival is always preferred for us. The food was packed in boxes and containers.

Here's what I ordered: Fried Man Tou, Chilli Crab, Prawn Paste Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork. Looking at the delicious made us drool, we can't wait to kickstart our dinner.

A must order dish from 8 Crabs is definitely their award-winning crabs. We had Award-Winning Extra Large Chilli Crab ($85).

The serving portion comes in 4 sizes:
Medium (400-500g each): $60 for 2 pieces
- Large (600-800g each): $68 for 1 piece
- Extra Large (800g-1kg each): $85 for 1 piece
- Double Extra Large (1.1kg-1.3kg each): $110 for 1 piece

I was pondering for quite awhile deciding between Large or Extra Large Crab and I decided to go for Extra Large in the end because my family loves crabs, so I ordered the bigger one for them to enjoy.

8 Crabs is the only company in Singapore that uses grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild catch crabs. Therefore, their crabs are meatier, tastier and bigger. They do not use farmed crabs which have ammonia smell due to crabs undergoing stressed when breed in a confined space.

These wild catch crabs are caught, flown and delivered to us within 12 hours to ensure the freshness and the live crabs will be cooked fresh daily to give the best flavour and taste.

There are 3 flavours of crabs for selection: Black Pepper, Chilli and Salted Egg Crab. I picked my all time favourite Chilli Crab which was definitely the spotlight of our dinner. The Chilli Crab was armed with sweet and spicy gravy that was perfect to pair with Fried Mantou. The chilli gravy was not too spicy but just right to work up our taste buds.

The crab meat has soaked up the fragrance of the chilli gravy, giving a blend of taste between sweet, savoury and spicy. The flesh tasted sweet and left us finger licking food.

We ordered 2 sets of Fried Man Tou ($6 x 2), each set comes with 5 Fried Man Tou. This is a must have whenever we have Chilli Crab because we want to make full use of the gravy for multi-use.
We dipped the fried mantou into the chilli gravy to soak up the goodness of the essence, every bite was so satisfying and comforting.

Their fried mantou was so much bigger than what I usually had, making it a filling dinner for us. The bun had a slight crispy exterior and soft interior. With or without the gravy, the fried mantou still tasted delicious, but the gravy will enhance the savoury flavour.

We had Prawn Paste Chicken Small ($12), the portion was just nice for my family.

The serving portion comes in 3 sizes:
Small (2 to 3 pax): $12
- Medium (3 to 5 pax): $18
Small (6 to 8 pax): $22

The wings were fried till golden brown and gave a good crunch when we sank our teeth in. The wings were coated with prawn paste to infuse the aromatic fragrance into the meat. Each wing was succulent with juicy meat tucked under the crispy skin, leaving us wanting for more.

Last but not least was Sweet and Sour Pork Small ($12) which comes in a decent portion.

The serving portion comes in 3 sizes:
Small (2 to 3 pax): $12
- Medium (3 to 5 pax): $18
Small (6 to 8 pax): $22

I love the bite size pork that was prepared with sweet and sour sauce, the flavour was well balanced and offered a change of taste to ease the hotness from the Chilli Crab. Another great dish to pair up with plain rice. The chunk of pork was meat and filling for dinner.
I had a really enjoyable dinner with my family, thanks to 8 Crabs. We rarely sit down together for a meal because we tend to eat at different timing, I am usually the last to eat as I end work at later timing (work longer hours during work from home). Hence, the delivery from 8 Crabs gave us an opportunity to sit down and enjoy the delectable zi char dishes together, the Chilli Crab is definitely our favourite among all. We will definitely order the Chilli Crab again.
