Hong Kong Day 7 & 8: Lamma Island + Hong Kong Restaurant

Friday 21/7/17

In a blink of an eye, it was already day 7 of our trip. It was our last full day spent in Hong Kong, thus we woke up early to begin our day make use of the day to the fullest.

We got ourselves ready by 9am.
The compulsory selfie before leaving the hotel.

We crossed over the street for McDonald's breakfast. McDonald was so crowded, we queued for quite awhile before our turn to order.

I have Scrambled Egg and Ham Burger, trying out the meal that is not available in Singapore.
It was a delicious treat with pan-fried ham and scrambled egg wrapped in a soft bread bun.

After the breakfast, we made our way to Tsim Sha Tsui again, our third time here to the station. The purpose of coming here was to buy the cookies from Jenny Bakery. I got 5 tins of mix butter cookies home for sharing.

It was just 5 minutes walk away from the station.

Nearest MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui exit D1 (3 minutes walk)

We didn't want to carry the tins of cookies around so we went back to our hotel to unload the stuffs and rest for another half an hour. We also discussed on the place to go next given that we only have half a day left and going to theme parks seem not worth it (as I would want to spend the whole day in theme park).

We traveled to Hong Kong Station to take a ferry ride to Lamma Island, 南丫島.
After alighting from the station and exit E1, we saw the big signage that state Lamma Island and just walked towards its direction to Central Pier 4 and cut through IFC mall.

On board the ferry, the ferry ride was paid via our MTR card at HKD17.80 (or S$3.18) . Remember to top up your card before scanning. The ferry ride was approximately 40 minutes.

We get to select the seats so I got the window seat.
Try to be the first few to board the ferry so you get the seat that you want. I always go for window seat.

We have reached Lamma Island, looking at the beautiful horizon ahead of us. A beautiful place full of fluffy clouds.
Lamma Island is located to the southwest of Hong Kong Island and it is the third largest island of Hong Kong. It is a traditional fishing villages and hidden Hong Kong scenery.

Lamma Island is away from the hustle and bustle city. Time seemed to slow down when we were here. It was a nice place for relaxation except that the weather was so hot here, we immediately felt the blazing heat upon alighting the ferry and it was scorching hot.

Lamma Island is house to a streetful of seafood restaurants, arts and crafts stores that can be found once we alighted at the pier. It is quite similar to Pulau Ubin.

It was already 2.30pm and we were famished. We stopped by at this eatery, Wen Ji, to get ourselves some food. The food served here was so pathetic, we paid HKD82 (or S$14.64) for the food here. If you are looking for full meal, you may want to consider other places for lunch. Here is only good for tea break.

Exploring the stretch of shop houses along the old street. A very nostalgic scene that is slowing disappearing in the modern cities.

Not feeling satisfied for lunch, we stopped by at this famous Ah Po soya beancurd eatery along the way to hike. This is a must try food when at Lamma Island. The Soya Beancurd was so smooth, silky and soft, it just simply melt in my mouth. The syrup has sweetened the taste of the Soya Beancurd and compliment the light taste of soya beancurd.

Hiking on a hot day is definitely not cool. One thing I dislike about Lamma Island is that the place was full of flies and mosquitoes. I was being bitten up and got so many red bumps left by the flies. So itchy and unbearable.

We strolled back to the Pier.
Lamma Island is really an hidden village away from the city. It is suitable for travelers who are looking for quaint old beauty with an abundance of natural scenery. This place is also the hometown of Actor Chow Yun-fat.

We were ready to leave Lamma Island and head back to Hong Kong Island, took a 40 minutes rest during the ferry ride.

From the bridge towards IFC mall, we caught sight of Hong Kong Observation Wheel. It looked quite stunning and oversee the view of spectacular Victoria Harbour.

Since time was still early, I decided to head over to Argyle Centre @ Mong Kok to do last round of shopping. I got some snacks for my colleagues at Bonjour.

We got the Mango & Ice Cream Pancake at HKD29 (S$5.18)
The pancake was served hot while the mango and ice cream was served cold. It was a hot and cold + sweet and savoury combination.

We proceeded to the outdoor for more shopping. I bought 2 more tops and souvenirs for my friends. It was nearly 8pm and we were hungry again, we just walked in to any appealing eatery to settle our dinner.

Our random finding got us into Hong Kong Restaurant 香港站餐廳小廚 where we met the most friendliest staff we ever met in Hong Kong. It was hard to find such a polite and friendly person in Hong Kong's Chaan Teng, being customer orientated is never their style. He was very friendly and helpful with our order. He also tried to find out where we are from and guessing our age, he thought we were from Beijing and around 24 years old. Lol.

We initially only ordered a main course each, but upon trying the food we were blown away by the goodness of it. We then ordered another signature curry dish to try. It was a hearty and delicious dinner. Dinner cost was HKD162 (S$28.92).

We reached hotel around 9pm to pack our luggage and prepare to head home the next day. We spent the remaining night being a couch potato in our room, catching up on social media and game.

Saturday 22/7/17

I woke up to our checkout day. We woke up at 9 plus to prep ourselves ready for checkout at 11am.

My 8D7N vacation has come to an end.
The takeaway from this vacation was to slow down our pace and enjoy the moments. It wasn't like other vacations where our days were packed with many activities. Though the rain played a part in jeopardizing many of our plans, because of that, I managed to truly relax. I am ready to head home and to start my work and study routine again.

We need to save up and plan for the next trip, can't wait to travel around the world together again.

We took a cab to Hong Kong International Airport from our hotel, my eyes were glued to the sights that we passed by on our way to the airport.

The MTR tourist tickets that we bought only covered 1 Airport Express ride, so we took a cab back. The cab fare to the airport cost us HKD256 (or S$45.71) while the second ride for Airport Express 2 pax will cost us HKD200. So we just paid additional HKD56 for a comfort ride to the airport without having to transfer at the MTR line.

The first thing we did upon reaching airport was to have our lunch. We have Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Terminal 1, the last Xiao Long Bao's indulgence before we depart. We made sure our last meal in airport is always a hearty one. The lunch was HKD260 (or S$46.43).

Sichuan La Mian for my main course.
This Hong Kong's trip was indeed a satisfying food trip with our tummy filled with lots of delicious food.

We got a seafood and egg toast from McDonald for sharing. It was quite unique because we never have this in Singapore.

I initially thought that 8 days trip was too long for Hong Kong, but it turned out to be just nice and had passed in a blink of eye. We still want to stay and continue with our unfinished itinerary.

Our plane was here and we were ready to on board the plane at 1.45pm.
Singapore, we are coming.

Meal was served at 4pm, I opt for the grilled fish set where the fish was served in a refreshing sauce.
I ended my meal with Haagen Dazs chocolate ice cream.

We reached Singapore at about 6 plus and set off for home.

We can't wait to eat the cookies, I love it so much.

With that, I ended my Hong Kong's trip sharing. Hope this sharing is useful for you in planning your itinerary to Hong Kong. Enjoy reading.
