Sanuk Thai Restaurant @ Goldhill Shopping Centre

Thailand is a country well loved by many Singaporeans because we simply love their food, shopping and exploring around. One thing I miss most is the Thai food that is affordable and delicious.

I'm always on the search for good, affordable and delicious food for weekend dine out. Today I found a new dinning place that sell affordable and delectable Thai food to share with you guys:

Sanuk Thai Restaurant
It is formally known as ThaiLily Restaurant that is situated at Goldhill Shopping Centre, Novena. Sanuk is actually a Thai word for fun and joy. Keeping this in mind, Sanuk Thai Restaurant hopes to create a casual and enjoyable dining place for the diners.

Sanuk Thai Restaurant is well loved by the working crowds at Novena during weekdays and a place for authentic Thai food gathering during weekend. They are known for their inexpensive prices. The price on menu is the price you pay, no service charge and GST. It is a great place to indulge yourself with all the delectable Thai food.

For the drinks selection, we opt for Thai Ice Green Tea with Milk ($3.20) and Thai Ice Tea with Milk ($3.00). We missed the Thai milk tea and the drinks satisfied our cravings, the taste and sweetness was just right.

Thai Ice Milk Tea is one of my favourite drinks and I will always ordered it whenever I patronized a Thai restaurant.

We have Tom Yam Chicken Soup with Coconut Milk.
With the coconut milk added to the Tom Yam Soup, it neutralized the spiciness of the soup and brought out the fragrance. It still maintained the distinct spicy and sour flavours of tom yam. The rich taste of the soup was so satisfying.

Not only was each mouthful burst with flavours, it was also filled with generous portion of chicken chunks and mushroom. The meat was tender and soaked well in the tom yam soup, the meat carried the spice taste when consumed.

Thai Prawn Cake for appetizer.
The prawn cake has a wonderful crispy skin on its exterior while the meat remained soft in the interior. Bite off the crispy edge and you will taste the delicious prawn meat in it. The prawn cake was so good to savour on its own and you can dipped the sauce for a enhanced taste.

We shared Phad Thai Seafood ($7.90).
Phad Thai is a common Thai food for many of us. We tossed the stir fried rice noodles with the peanuts to mix them well. The Phad Thai has a smooth texture, easy to glide down and delectable. So wonderful.

Rice with Basil Pork ($7.90).
This is one of the Thai dishes that I always ordered whenever I eat Thai food. I like that the basil pork was well tossed with chilli spices that enhanced the hot flavour of the dish. It was so tasty when consume together with the egg and rice. The sunny side up was cooked with the runny egg yolk. My way of eating was always to burst the egg and let the yolk drenched the white rice.

Next was Steamed Fish with Lemon Sauce.
The fish was fresh and the lemon sauce gravy has brought aromatic flavour to the steamed fish. I always prefer steamed fish than fried fish because it maintained the tastiness of the fish and immersing in the broth added sweetness to the fish. Besides that, the flesh of the fish was also very tender and smooth. Be cautious when consume the fish because they are quite a number of bones in it.

We had Minced Pork Omelette that was simply our favourite.
Both of us are egg lovers and the omelette has won our heart. The omelette has a charred edges and crispy border on the side while moist on the inside. It was also a popular dish in Thai restaurant.

We love seeing the table full of food so that we can try a little of everything.

We ended our meal with Butterfly Pea Soda Drink to ease our thirst.
It looked so nice to be drink. The butterfly pea created a magical effect that gave it purple and bluish colour. The use of light blub bottle made the coloured drink stand out with its beautiful shape.
The drink was refreshing and thirst quenching.

Enjoying good food does not necessary have to be a luxurious one. Dining in a casual setting taste equally good. If you happen to drop by Novena or a Thai food lover, drop by Sanuk Thai Restaurant and give it a try.

Thanks Sanuk Thai Restaurant for hosting us at the tasting.

Food Review: Siamese Cat Café

It's been a long while since I last met my friends for a meal due to my work and study commitments. I'm glad that this busy period is going to end soon. We have a great dinner tasting session at Siamese Cat Café @ Novena Square(Velocity) where we tried some of our favourite Thai food and chill over the meal.

Siamese Cat is a Thai cafe that brings us Thai ethnicity to Singapore. Looking at their menu already make me drooling, they serve a variety of Thai food ranging from milk tea and drinks to Thai noodles, to toasts and desserts.

Siamese Cat is situated at the spot where the former Tuk Tuk Cha is.

With the change from Tuk Tuk Cha to Siamese Cat, it brings the dining experience to higher level, offering an extensive food menu which makes Siamese Cat a great place for lunch or dinner venue.

It's been a long time since I last hang out with the girls.
Thanks GF for calling us along and Meryl for the photo.

We were totally spoilt for choices when it comes to drink selection. Siamese Cat has a 1 page menu of drinks that we can choose from.
Here's our choice of drinks from left to right: Jessie and Cookie both had Yuzu Soda ($4), Meryl opt for the all time favourite Thai Milk Tea ($2.80) while I had Avocado Coco ($5.50).

I love Avocado Coco drink so much, it was sweet and tasty. Drinking it makes me feel happy with the sweetness spread into my body.

The first dish up was Butterfly Pea Glass Noodles ($6.80). We ordered this because it looked so visually perfect with its outstanding blue-purplish noodle. The plate just looked so photo-worthy with different colours added. The glass noodles have a smooth bite.

We opt for a soup based dish, Northern Tom Yum Noodles ($9.80).
The noodles were soaked in the Tom Yum soup, infusing the broth into the noodles. The spicy and sour broth gave a kick when consume. We helped ourselves to the generous servings of fresh prawns, seafood and mushroom too.

Next was Mango Salad ($5.80). Do not belittle this plate of Mango Salad, I could feel the hot and spiciness after a few mouthful. Quickly get hold of my drink and gulp it down.

One of my favourites definitely is Phad Thai ($7.80). Just by looking at it, it already tempted us to start digging in.
The noodle was coated with sauce and, stir-fry with bean sprouts and eggs. Every bite could taste the eggy goodness that was well spread out. It tasted so marvelous.

After having a series of savoury food, it's time to move on to dessert.
First up was Condensed Milk Milo Butter Toast ($4.20). The butter toast was toppled with milo powder and drizzled with condensed milk, one can taste the richness of the milo powder. This may look simple but it was a sweet and savoury indulgence. It was a mild sweetness dessert to go for.

Next up was Coco Yolk ($4.80) which made up of coconut ice cream and frozen egg yolk slice. A perfect dessert to ease our throat after having the spicy dishes. The ice cream was very creamy and smooth, but we can't taste much of egg yolk, the taste was not powering. Nevertheless, I still love it very much because I'm a big fan of coconut ice cream.

Last but not least was Charcoal Mango Sticky Rice ($8.80). This was my first time seeing charcoal sticky rice which makes the dessert unique. Our only grip for this was that the sticky rice was too firm when we tried to eat using plastic fork. The mango was really sweet and we cleared it in no time.

It was a pity that I didn't get to taste the Shibuya Toast which we wanted to try because we were too full. Hope to try it next time.

We have a joyful dinner in a relaxing atmosphere and chit chatting among ourselves. Thanks Siamese Cat for having us.

Upon leaving, we chanced upon the float cup holder that  Siamese Cat is selling.  Siamese Cat is having Summer Float Fiesta the whole of May. For purchase of value meal set, one can redeem the float cup holder at $4 each. They have different design every week. Collect them all now.

Food Tasting at Collin's‏ Shaw Plaza

Congratulations to Collin's on the opening of the new outlet at  Shaw Plaza.

Do you know that Collin's already has 17 outlets island-wide?
Collin's newly restaurant at Balestier Road is the latest outlet and also the largest outlet to date.

Collin's started off as a local eatery in coffeeshop offering extremely affordable, high quality Western & Japanese cuisine.

It was founded by Chef Collin Ho, who has had 15 years of experience in the culinary field. Working in five star hotel restaurant has allowed him to hone his skills in western cuisine.

New Collins Restaurant At Balestier Road.
Congratulations on the opening.

The restaurant is spacious and the setting made us feel comfortable. Love the atmosphere.
Suitable for dining with family or small group gathering with friends.

One specialty of Shaw Plaza outlet is that this is the only outlet that offers handmade pizza with their wood stone oven. You can see everything they prepared through the see-through glass.

The pizza menu is only exclusive at Shaw Plaza outlet.

French soda apricot peach flavour and orange juice.

My bus journey to Shaw Plaza was about 40 minutes and I was super thirsty by the time I reached Collin's. The French soda was just perfect to clench my thirst and super refreshing.

This was actually my first time dinning at Collin's. I was fascinated with each dish served.
Collin's has come up with a Christmas gourmet specially for this festive season. Let's take a look at what Collin's offer for Christmas. Time to kickstart the feast.

First dish up, winter potato salad with ham and chestnuts ($5.90).

The mustard sauce is a great companion to the potato, it added flavour to it. The potato is good to go with main course too. I like the ham very much, super tasty.  Both ham and potato complement each other, one is savoury while the other is sweet.

Handmade 12-Inch Thin Crust Pizza ($16.80) - Frutti Di Mare

Please don't be mistaken that this is a fruity pizza. Frutti Di Mare actually means "Fruits of the Sea", it is seafood pizza that consists of shrimp, squids, mussel and crabmeat.

This was my favourite dish of all. I like the cheesy texture of the pizza and chunks of seafood in every bite. It was flavoursome, delicious and filling. The crust of the pizza was crispy good, you can hear the 'crack' sound when bite it.

Handmade 12-Inch Thin Crust Pizza ($16.80) - Collin's Special

Another pizza with great variety of toppings that include ham, sausage, bacon, onion, capsicum, olive, mushroom, and salami.

I love the cheesiness of the pizza and generous amount of toppings on it. The thickness of the pizza was just right., not too thick and not too thin.

Santa's Baked Seafood Parcel ($11.90)

Unwrap the parcel to a bag of seafood - salmon, mussel, prawn and cauliflower.
It may look hot and spicy, but the sauce was actually tomato sauce.

The salmon was soft and succulent with no fishy taste. It could literally melt in the mouth. Every bite was juicy and flavourful with the sweet tomato sauce. The prawns and mussels served were fresh and tasty.

***

This was the end of our tasting for Christmas Gourmet, time to try on some of their other specialty and hot selling:

Appetizer Platter ($18.90)

Selection of classic buffalo drumlets, pork sausage, tempura squid tentacles and potato noodle prawn roll.
The platter was appealing to me where most of the selections were my favourite.

US Crisp Cut Fries ($3.90)

The fries were crispy and fried till perfection. The fries were tasty by itself, no need to further enhance the taste with any sauce.

Duck Confit ($13.50)

The signature duck leg was slow-cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was served with salad, mashed potato and mushroom. This dish was not an easy dish to master, lots of preparation were done at the backend. This dish was value for money, the places outside are definitely selling at a higher price.
Baked Caramel Banana ($6.90)

This was served with vanilla ice-cream.
The banana was caramelised, it tasted a little bit like goreng pisang. the sweet version of goreng pisang. I love the scoop of vanilla ice-cream. I am a ice-cream lover.

Grand Marnier Orange Souffle ($7.90)

The texture of the souffle was airy and light. Recommend to eat immediately after being served. I could taste the sweet fluffiness of the souffle, it tasted like the combination of egg pudding and cotton candy.

We came over to Collin's with empty stomach and left with bloated stomach.
Thanks Collin's for the sumptuous dinner, I enjoyed every dishes very much. Definitely will go back to Collin's again for the price affordable indulgence.
