Happenings in June and July - Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel and Cleanance Comedomed

Sunday 4/6/23

I have started using Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel for past one week and would like to share these products with those who have blemish-prone and sensitive skin.

Cleanance Cleansing Gel is in blue gel like form that lather well on skin, it has a light and refreshing smell. The cleanser is gentle and does not dry up my skin, leaving my skin feeling clean after using. One unique fact of the cleanser is that the gel is soap-free, yet it is able to cleanse our skin thoroughly. The cleanser is suitable for people with sensitive skin like me as it contains a plant-based patented active ingredient that reduces excess sebum and soothes skin.

After cleansing, my skin is ready for the next skincare regimen, Cleanance Comedomed that fights blemishes and prevents them from reappearing. Cleanance Comedomed also provide hydration to my skin and I have been using it as a moisturiser, acting as a 2-in-1 product for treatment and moisturiser. The lightweight concentrate has a gel like texture and absorbed into skin almost immediately. I did not experience irritation when using the product nor breakout when I am using the product, it helped to soothe my skin and reduced the bump size. Definitely going to continue using it.

Monday 24/7/23
We had our lunch at Saizeriya, a regular spot for us with lunch sets starting from $7.90. We decided to indulge a bit by sharing two desserts among the four of us - the Chocolate Lava Cake and Apple Crumble.

Places to Dine near Clarke Quay (2023 Edition)

This is my fourth compilation to share on new places to dine near Clarke Quay (2023 edition).

Not only is Clarke Quay a touristy place to explore, it is packed with endless selection when it comes to food. Time to explore some of the newly opened restaurants and also the old long standing restaurants around Clarke Quay.

1. Bones N Slaw
I was introduced to Bones N Slaw, an Italian restaurant located at The Central @ Clarke Quay that serves a variety of food ranging from handmade pasta, pizza, pasta, breakfast and main course. There is a 3 course set lunch promotion during weekdays from the price of $17.90++.

I opt for Chamomile Tea which came in a pot, the tea has a light scent and distinct note of chamomile, it also contained powerful antioxidants that may have a variety of health benefit.

For starter, you can choose between soup of the day or salad. I chose soup and it turned out to be French Onion Soup with a slice of bread in it, soaking up the flavour of the broth.

I opt for 62 Degree Chicken Breast for main course. Between healthier and sinful food, it was always easier to choose the more delicious one. The chicken breast was cooked at a specific temperature to ensure the meat was tender and juicy. It was accompanied with onion, potato and veggie.

2.Yoshi Sushi
Yoshi Sushi is a sushi restaurant serving affordable and authentic Japanese cuisine. During lunch hour, they offer affordable lunch set too.

I had Tonkatsu Rice Set ($15.80++) which came with salad, chawanmushi and miso soup. The tonkatsu has a golden brown crispy battered skin with tender meat in it. Dip it with the accompanied sauce to enhance the taste of the tonkatsu.

Clarke Quay Central, #01-68 to 69, 6 Eu Tong Sen St, 059817
Operating hours: 11.30am to 10pm daily

3. Thai Kha
Thai Kha is a casual eatery that serves authentic Thai street cuisine. I had Thai Krapow Rice where the basil pork was served with crispy fried egg and steam rice. It was packed with a good spicy punch, you can opt for less spicy if you can't take too spicy food.

2 Havelock Rd, #01-01/48, Singapore 059763
Operating hours: 8am to 10pm daily

4. Harry's Riverside Point
Headed to Harry's bar for lunch, they have wide variety of food choices ranging from sides, main course, pizza, pasta to dessert. You can choose to sit indoor or alfresco.

Opting for indoor seating to be in the cool comfort of air conditioning, we settled in to enjoy our lunch. The bar was encompassed with earthy tones, as evident in the wooden walls, tables, and chairs.

I always order Laksa Popcorn Chicken ($16++) whenever I went Harry's, the bite-sized popcorn chicken was very crispy with the batter coated at the exterior, it was drizzled with Laksa Mayo Dip which enhanced the fragrance of spices.

5. Brewerkz

Brewerkz offers a modern European, classic American and Asian favourites infused with local touches, renowned for their exceptional craft beer selection.

We also had Crispy Peppercorn Chicken ($15++) with Szechuan spice and curry dip. The serving size felt somewhat inadequate considering the price paid.

The Wild Mushroom Aglio Olio ($22++)  featured an al dente texture and a mild spice level that was complemented by the garlic flavor. It was a decent one.

30 Merchant Rd, #01-07 Riverside Point, Singapore 058282
Operating hours: 12pm to 12am from Sun to Thu, 12pm to 1am on Fri and Sat

6. Café Iguana

Café Iguana is known for their Mexican food hip and part of the buzzing nightlife at Clarke Quay.

The cafe was vibrant with its brightly coloured chairs and interior decor. It stood out as the most colourful cafe along the stretch of restaurants and drew the largest crowd.

I had Grilled Chicken Quesadilla ($16++) where the tortilla was filled with mixed cheddar cheese, smoked chicken and lime crème. The portion size was just right and well-balanced in terms of ingredients.

30 Merchant Rd, #01-03, Riverside Point, Singapore 058282
Operating hours: 5pm to 11pm from Mon to Thu, 12pm to 1am on Fri and Sat, 12pm to 11pm on Sun

7. TSUJIRI

TSUJIRI is a place to stop by for drinks and dessert. Originatd Uji, Kyoto, they are specialised in serving authentic matcha products.

I had Chiffon Parfrait O-Matcha ($8.80). The combination of the slightly bitter matcha ice cream, the sweetness of the red bean, and the airy chiffon cake created a harmonious balance of flavors and textures. It was a perfect indulgence on a hot and sunny afternoon.

Places to Dine near Fort Canning

Fort Canning is a site of historical importance, nestled close to the Singapore River, Robertson Quay, and Clemenceau Avenue. This area is filled with many delicious delights, making it an exploration for both history enthusiasts and those seeking delectable dining experiences. I have came up with a compilation for places to dine near Fort Canning.

1. Shunjuu Izakaya

Shunjuu Izakaya is situated along Robertson Quay with al-fresco dining, they serve many Japanese favourites with an emphasis on dishes that pair well with alcohol.

The Piri Kara Doufu Sute-ki was tofu served with spicy sauce. The deep fried tofu boasted a crunchy exterior that gave way to a tender interior, the spicy sauce added a kick that ignited my appetite. The Karaage Chicken was savoury and elevated further when paired with the contrasting flavor of the creamy mayonnaise sauce.

The Hotate Buta Maki was actually scallop rolled with pork. Offering a delightful chewiness, the dish brought together the succulence of the scallop and the savory essence of the pork in an union of flavors.
