Happenings in April - Ya Kun Family Cafe + Cafe De Muse + Hectic Month

Saturday 3/4/21

It has been awhile since I last had brunch. To satisfy my cravings, I had Ultimate Big Breakfast ($21++) which comes with scrambled eggs, pork Bratwurst, bacon, baked beans, roasted tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, hashbrown, multigrain toast and greens.

Saturday 10/4/21
It has been more than 10 years since I last visited West Coast Park so I revisited this park since I'm already at the west side of Singapore. Took a stroll here to digest the food intake.

We takeaway CHICHA San Chen to indulge over at the park and replenish our water intake. This was my first time trying CHICHA San Chen and I had the classic bubble milk tea.

We did not spend much time to explore the park because the park was quite small as compared to east coast park, and not much of a nice scenery too.

Wednesday 21/4/21

Finally the day is here after 3 months of preparation. We woke up at 5 plus in the morning to get ourselves ready and headed to the destination at 6am.

After settling the procedure at 8am, the three of us went to Ya Kun Family Cafe for breakfast. I had Kaya Butter Toast, soft boiled egg and milo. Really missed the traditional breakfast that I used to have when I was young, my parent will bring us to the hawker centre or coffeeshop on every Sunday morning for this breakfast.

Saturday 24/4/21

It has been hectic the past few days. I gave myself a break in the afternoon for a laser treatment at IDS and tea break with my friend at Cafe De Muse @ Shaw House. Decided to choose this place because it was located right before International Building, a convenient location after I finished the treatment.

It was nearing 5pm and we don't want to have something too full, so we had small bites set for sharing. We choose Hawaiian Mini Pizza and Truffle Fries ($17++). The portion was just nice without feeling too full for dinner.

I had Cookies & Cream Frappe ($7++), anything with Cookies & Cream will be on my choice without consideration. The frappe was served in a unique cup instead of the usual see through glass.

Rushed over for family appointment after the short break.

Sunday 25/4/21

As usual, my mum and I went out at 7.30am today. We wanted to have our breakfast at Ya Kun initially, but it was not opened so we settled for Kopitiam.

I had the same set of breakfast but at a cheaper price. However, the toast definitely cannot compare to the one at Ya Kun.

Mum has sandwich instead but she wasn't feeling full, so I suggested to get Pan Fried Pork Dumpling. The pork dumpling was served piping hot and tasted so delicious.

We reached home at nearly noon and had a little rest before heading out again to visit my grandma.

The view from level 11 of Outram Community Hospital.
Glad that grandma was feeling all right but she still need to be observed for a few more days.

Things will get better.

Places to Dine at The Star Vista Bouna Vista

It has been quite awhile since I last visited The Star Vista. I decided to choose this place for meetup with my friends because it is a mid point location and less crowded than other malls. The Star Vista is an unique mall because it is naturally ventilated and aircon is only available in the stores. There are quite a number of restaurants and eateries that will attract us to visit. Here are some restaurants and eateries that I visited.

1. Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant (#02-16)

Watami is a Japanese Causal Restaurant that serves an assorted variety of authentic Japanese cuisine at affordable price.

We ordered a plate of Salmon Maki for sharing. The delicious salmon coated with mentaiko mayo was sitting on top of the sushi, making the maki tasted flavoursome as a whole.

I had Teriyaki Chicken Don with Egg ($6.90++).
This menu made our eyes light up with their affordable price. The portion may not be enough for big eater, but it was just nice for me.

Happy birthday in advance, Linda.
Hope you like the gift and dinner treat. Thanks for the belated birthday gift too.

2. 5 Senses Bistro (#02-21)
Today's food hunt brought me to 5 Senses Bistro, an Asian and European fusion bistro.

We had Furikake Fries ($8.90++) to go with our meal. The fries were very addictive and well seasoned with Japanese rice seasoning.

I had Carbonara ($9.90++) for my main course. The portion was generous, the spaghettis was tossed with smoked bacon and parmesan cheese, and finished off with poached egg. I broke open the egg yolk and give it a good mix before eating, letting the egg yolk soaked into the spaghettis and enhancing the taste.

3. Geláre (#02-27)
Chanced upon Gelare while walking around the mall and I was attracted by their waffle ice cream, so we decided to stop by here for dessert.

Half Classic Waffles with Cookie and Cream Ice Cream allows you to choose two toppings. I ended up selected mini marshmallow and chocolate bits. With the chocolate sauce drizzled over, it was definitely rich in choco taste. The waffle was very crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

4. Imakatsu (#01-17)
Imakatsu is a Tonkatsu-specialty Japanese restaurant located at level 1 of The Star Vista. This outlet is the first overseas store that opened outside Japan. Being featured in "Michelin Guide Tokyo 2015", it made me want to give it a try.

We came without reservation and got a seat immediately, we got a glass of green tea while waiting for the food.

I had Premium Pork Loin Cutlet which comes with the finest cuts of Japanese pork loin and different sauces. All the sauces paired well with the pork cutlet, each added different taste to the pork cutlet.

The pork cutlet was crispy on the outside with the light battered while the lean meat within was tender and juicy.

Stay tuned for more sharing by location.

Happenings in March and April - Carousel Buffet Lunch at Royal Plaza on Scotts

Tuesday 2/3/21

I started to go back office to work on site more regularly now. One thing I like about going back office to have lunch with my colleagues and talking about anything under the sun. It has been a long time since I last met my team, hence the eight of us headed out to Swensen's @ Plaza Singapura for lunch.

I had something different today instead of the usual Chicken Baked Rice, I had Salmon and Mushroom Baked Rice. So nice to have lunch with such a big group again.

Saturday 4/3/21

Weekend is a period for me to relax as I refrained working on weekend nowadays.

I received EST LAB OptimaLift A+ Eye Contour Mask from Daily Vanity this week and decided to use it over the weekend.

The eye mask helps to de-puff eye bags, reduce dark circles, improve fine lines, leave our eyes looking firmer, brighter, more radiant and rejuvenated.

10th floor aunt has prepared nasi lemak for my family for dinner. She has added many ingredients and mine has a specially added salmon. Thanks Aunt for always feeding us with good food.

Friday 19/3/21

Headed back to office today, we went over to Astons @ The Central for lunch.

I ordered different combination of side dishes, fries and cold pasta. Something different for photo taking. A delicious lunch to end off the working week. It was nice to go back office once in a while though working from home is more flexible.

Saturday 27/3/21

I headed for my scalp treatment and haircut. Feel so great to have my scalp being deep cleansed regularly because it helps to control the hair loss issue.

Amber's family came over to my place in the evening, always have a great time playing with the A's siblings, so cute and playful.

Thursday 1/4/21

2020 has been an extraordinary year for my workplace with overwhelming work due to staff movement and additional load added, this has brought our work to a whole new level that we have never experience. To recognise our hard work for the past one year, G treated us to a buffet lunch at Carousel. As some of us were working from home that day, we traveled down to the venue individually.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have to placed our order using our phone by scanning a QR code and the servers will bring the food to our table.

I started off the buffet with Fish Maw Soup.

The Grilled Sea Bass Fillet was my favourite among the dishes. The sea bass was complemented by the sauce which added fragrance to the fillet.

I ordered a bowl of Carbonara which was on a dry side. The boneless Prawn Paste Chicken was savoury with crispy skin and juicy meat. Baked Red Snapper was normal, the sea bass fillet tasted better.

Since there was curry, we decided to get Naan to pair with the curry. I was starting to fill full after finishing this. I saved the remaining capacity for dessert.

The gula melaka ice cream was really sweet, glad that it came with a quarter slice of waffle to balance out the sweetness of the ice cream. The macaron was irresistible and not overly sweet.

The delicious lunch was indeed a feast for our stomach. Thanks G for the lunch treat, we had a good lunch break before heading back to our respective places to chiong for work again.

I was feeling so full that I skipped dinner that night. That's all for updates, good night.
