Attended an eye opener event, National Youth Council Media Conference, which took place at SCAPE Warehouse. Media, reporter, organizing committee and bloggers were invited for this conference.

The conference is to highlight to us an upcoming mega event that will take place right at the start of July :
SHINE Youth Festival 2011
The launch event is organised by the National Youth Council (NYC) as an annual affair for youth
(age between 15 to 35) to celebrate and showcase their talent, demostrating their creativity and dynamism.

We will now invite the SHINE Youth Festival Steering Committee members to tell us more about it.

With the highly experienced Steering Committee members, they will be a bolder event concept, a wider array of activities and events throughout the month-long festival from 2 to 31 July 2011.
July is the month for youths – the month for SHINE. So let us all come together and join this big celebration, putting our dreams in action. SHINE will be everywhere and anywhere.
Let us all adopt the “Enough Talk Just do” attitude.
SHINE 2011 – a platform for youths to indulge in our passion, showcast our skills and talents.
O School, the organiser of The Big Groove (TBG) will be bringing us Asia’s most awaited hip-hop dance convention. Let us all step into the world of Hip Hop:
6-9 July – Master classes delivering master moves and tips.
8 July – The Big Groove Party
10 July - TBG Showcase Finale where you can expect power-packed performances by local and overseas crews such as The Beat Freaks (USA).
There are also great performance which gives us a clue of what to expect during the Youth Festival:
The very first performance by
Juz B.
They are a very talented and well-known acapella group with great vocal and beatboxing skill. This must be one of the best acapella performance I ever saw.
Speaking of which, Ryan from Juz-B will be leading the beatbox workshop on 2 July @ SCAPE. Lets learn from him on how to execute the basic drum sound and put them into a rhythm.
Next up, we have The Roses which brought us to the world of Hip Hop. I could feel their pulsating energy and vibrancy. It’s definitely a performance that you cannot miss. So come and experience the multicultural heritage of ethnic fusion mix and pop program at
Singapore Street Festival 2011.

Another highlight will be the COSMO Youth Parade 2 July 2011:
Showcase of local cosplayers.
Come show your love for cosplay. You can come dress in any character, be it from gaming (SAF), animation, manga, TV or movies (Superhero).
Don’t worry if you don’t have the costumes. There will be more than 400 cosplay costumes to satisfy your fantasy. Come join the street parade on 2 July 2011 at Orchard Central.
Besides that, SMU will be involved in SHINE 2011 as well. They will embark on 3 community services projects throughout the month of July:
16-17 July – Car Foam Party at Holland Village Car Park from 9am to 5pm. All proceeds will go to “My Bunona Vista Place”.
18-24 July – Ballooning Blitz 2011 at Nex Shopping Mall where they build an enchanted castle to bring joy and funds to the needy.
30 July – Inspirar where they led the elderly in dong a self-defence routine-cum-workout session that matches their physicality and lifestyle.

SCAPE is bringing its inaugural Street*SCAPE, Raw 2 Da Floor Hip Hop Conference, Art Park, Sambiesta and its regular *SCAPE Magic Carnival to rock the month of July. Lets embark on the magical and illusion journey.
After the conference ended, the bloggers went and have a try of the specially-designed Facebook game – power2shine. We have to gain the power of SHINE by overcoming obstacles, challenges and zombies in the shortest time.
