I am sure many of you are aware that Channel 8's 2013 year-end blockbuster drama - The Journey: A Voyage《信约:唐山到南洋》is coming up.
This is the drama that I have been waiting to watch because the drama featured many of my favourite artistes.
Thanks Mediacorp and Channel 8 for the invitation, I have the opportunity to attend the private preview screening of the blockbuster drama.
The Journey: A Voyage is Channel 8's 2013 year-end blockbuster that recounts the travails of first-generation Chinese immigrants who set foot on the island of Singapore to seek their fortunes and future.
Facing internal threats and foreign aggression, the social and political instability of 20th century China forces her people to leave their Motherland in droves to seek a living in Nanyang. The journey is one fraught with difficulties, one they must persevere to carve a niche they can call their own, build a new homeland and enjoy the fruits of their success.
It tells the stories of three young men as they faced the tumultuous 1920s and eventually survived the odds to call Singapore home.
The Journey: A Voyage is part of MediaCorp’s TV50 celebrations and part of a trilogy which will culminate in Singapore’s nation building celebrations in 2015.
I brought Christin along with me for the screening.
Before the screening starts, we had some photos taken.
With my blogger friends carrying our retrolicious goodie bags. So nice to see them here (:
Without much waiting, the casts had one by one arrived at Joyden hall. They were here with us to catch the first episode of the drama too.
The cast were all looking great that night.
From left to right: Elvin Ng, Priscelia Chan, Joanne Peh, Chris Tong, Desmond Tan, Terence Cao and Allen Chen.
A star-studded moment for everyone of us that were present. After looking at the picture, who is your favourite?
So happy, I had a group photo taken with the cast <3
After the short photo-taking session with the casts, we proceeded into Joyden Hall and got ourselves seated at the first row.
With my partner of the night - Christin.
Both of us were looking forward to catch the drama.
The host of the night was Bukoh Mary 巫许玛莉 from Capital 95.8FM.
The guy on stage was Alfred Sim, he is the one who sang the theme song for the drama.
I must say he has a good vocal and powerful voice. So nice to listen to his singing again after two years, he still maintain the same standard.
Managed to dig out a old good photo that I took with Alfred. Click here to read more.
Alfred had sang us the theme song 家乡.
This is a sentimental song and I think Alfred controlled the key and emotion well.
The casts were up on stage to share with us more about the drama and the role that they were playing:
Elvin Ng and Joanne Peh are step-brother and step-sister relationship. They developed romantic feelings but they buried their emotions and kept a distance from each other. Joanne then married Allen Chen against her true wishes.
Priscelia Chan is a wealthy, feisty and obstinate rich lady who marries Terence Cao. Chris Tong, the daughter of a bankrupt landlord, was arranged to marry Terence as his second wife. Fortunate Terence with two wives.
Desmond Tan and Jeanette Aw travelled to Nanyang to earn a living. Their love was put to test when Desmond got addicted to opium.
Terence is really good at talking and entertaining the audience.
There was a part where Terence was teasing Joanne and Elvin quickly fend for her. So sweet (:
Terence and Joanne were sharing with us why the drama is worth the watch.
Without further ado, let's proceed with the screening of episode 1.
A short trailer.
The show started off with modern Singapore which slowly evolved into the older days Nanyang. It showed the ship that transport the immigrants from Tangshan to Nanyang and the story behind the immigrants.
I love the visual effects of the drama, it is like watching a 3D movie and I got enthralled by some of the scenes.
This is really a meaningful drama that talks about how our forefathers set their foot on Singapore and conquered all difficulties to build their new homeland. While watching, I was being overwhelmed by various of emotions. At the same time, I find that the drama is educating as well. There are values added in it. Stepping out of our comfort and familiar zone is never easy. It takes a lot of courage and determination to make the step and pursue the dreams. We should learn the spirit from our forefathers. I highly recommended this drama to everyone, it suits young and old.
The show also keep us in suspense about what will be happening next. I can't wait for episode 2 already.
The Journey: A Voyage《信约:唐山到南洋》 will be airing on Channel 8 on 25 November 2013 from Monday to Friday at 9pm. Do keep a lookout for this blockbuster drama, it is definitely worth the watch.
