Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) Day 1: InterContinental Kuala Lumpur + TGI Fridays + KLCC

I reached Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 3pm for my flight at 4.55pm, we cleared the immigration checkpoint in just 15 minutes. We proceeded to SATS Premier Lounge using credit card redemption for our late lunch and a comfortable spot to rest.

A glimpse of the buffet spread from far. We managed to find a table seating which was the last empty table available. As many people came here for the food, the table seating was higher demand than the couch seating.

Here's what I got from the buffet spread at the lounge. Though the selection was not a lot, it was still decent for me to last me through the flight later.
We had a good 45 minutes break at the lounge before making our way to the boarding gate at 4pm, as our boarding time was scheduled at 4.10pm. We were surprised that by the time we reached the boarding gate, passengers were already queuing up to board the plane. We moved off by 5pm. I initially expected a delay with Scoot since it was typical occurrence and it was the start of long weekend. We actually chose a later departure timing to avoid the most crowded period.

We finally took off at about 5.20pm after 20 minutes of taxiing on the runway. There were quite a number of planes taking off ahead of us, so we had to queue slowly. The flight duration to KL was about 35 minutes.

As we stepped out of our hotel, we turned left towards the direction of Citibank and and started walking straight. We spotted a KK Super Mart just one minute walk from our hotel. From this point, we were also treated to the stunning architecture of Petronas Twin Towers, the reason for my visit to KL was to see the towers.

I was quite hungry so the first stop we went to is food. Just nice it was Friday today, we settled for TGI Fridays, an international chain famous for their American classics.

It was already 8.30pm by the time we placed our order, there were still people awaiting for food or just arriving, much like us. The ambience of the restaurant was cozy with details placed in their interior design, from the potted plants to the spot lights, wall design and comfortable seating.

I had a glass of Orange Juice at RM12.90  (or $4.30) before tax. Having not drank much water since the afternoon, it served as the perfect thirst quencher. The freshness of the orange, coupled with sweet and sour notes left me feeling energised.

We ordered two appetisers for sharing given that the time was not early for a heavy meal.

First up was Signature Glazed Sesame Chicken Strips at RM25.90 (or $8.63) before tax. The chicken breast strips were coated with Japanese breadcrumbs and tossed in signature glaze. Each bite contained a sweet and mild spicy flavours.

Second appetiser was Fire Grilled Chicken Quesadilla at RM35.90 (or $11.97) before tax. This came in a generous portion of eight pieces. The thin tortilla was wrapped with grilled chicken, onion, salsa and shredded cheese. A fusion of savoury and tangy notes.

The total bill was RM103.95 (or S$34.65) after tax, which was quite decent.

Operating hours: 10am to 10pm daily

After satisfying our tummy, we began shopping. Suria KLCC is a 6-story large shopping mall that is home to many luxury brands such as Dior, Chanel, Prada, Fendi and other popular brands such as Coach, Kate Spade, Levis, Adidas, Nike and more. I did not buy anything here as there was not much discount.

KLCC is a popular area, it was already 9.50pm but the shopping mall and KLCC were still packed with people. As I stood outside, the majestic Petronas Twin Towers stole the spotlight. Illuminated against the night sky, I was immediately drew to the towers.

KLCC park came alive with KLCC Lake Symphony Light and Sound Water Fountain show, the vibrant colours of the light drew many passerbys to gather along the lake to witness the show unfold.

By 10pm, everyone just exited the shopping mall in an orderly manner. We walked back to hotel and stopped by KK Super Mart to check out their store items. The street felt safe to walk at night.

We were back in hotel by 10.20pm. Time to have a rest as we have a full day of activities for tomorrow since we only have one full day in KL. Good night.
