Golden Peony is an award-winning Chinese restaurant located in Conrad Centennial Singapore level 3.
It is a favourite among working crowds due to its strategic location and the use of premium ingredients for a gastronomic journey.
First course was Steamed Dim Sum and we can choose 2 out of 3 items, I chose Pork Siew Mai with Mini Abalone and Carrot Cake with Homemade Signature X.O Sauce.
The presentation of the dish looked exquisite and tasted delectable. I loved the carrot cake was savoury with bite size radish cake and the bean prouts has added crunchiness to the dish.
Second course was Fried or Baked Dim Sum and we can choose 2 out of 4 items, I chose Pan-fried Chili Crab Bun and Black Pepper ‘Peasy’ Swan Pastry.
The Pan-fried Chili Crab Bun has a burst of chili crab broth when bite open and the skin was thick enough to withhold the filling in it. The Swan Pastry has a light crispy and flaky black exterior which was quite crumbly, need to be careful when eat as the flaky bites will scattered around the table.
Third course was Soup of the Day which was Lao Huo Tang with Chicken and Lotus Root. The soup was flavourful with the generous amount of ingredient in it. A healthy cleansing of my palate before moving on to the next course.
Fourth course was Lobster Fragrant Poached Rice with Superior Broth. The poached rice was covered by a big cracker. You can directly eat the cracker or soak it in the broth.
The broth has soaked up the rice and lobster, bringing a fragrance in every bite. The not yet softened cracker added a crunch, which contrast against the soft pao fan. The bowl has a balance of flavour, the lobster meat tasted fresh and sweet. I really enjoyed it.
Last but not least was Chilled Cream of Avocado Vanilla Ice Cream. It was unusual to see this dessert as Chinese restaurant typically mango sago, hence this was quite refreshing for me. The avocado cream has a thick consistency and a pleasant mix of flavour with the vanilla ice cream. A sweet icy finish to our delicious lunch.
