Granny's 80th Birthday at Golden Spoon Seafood Restaurant

This year is Granny's 80th birthday. We were so happy that she was able to attend this birthday celebration and she is recovering well since her discharge from hospital last week. This year celebration was held at Golden Spoon Seafood Restaurant, a place that we are trying for the first time.

I made my own way to the restaurant right after I finished Skechers Friendship Walk 2019. I reached the restaurant as nearly 7.30pm because there was road block at Chinatown due to lantern festival light up and I have to go by another route to the venue.

By the time I reached, they were already having the second dish. Thankfully my family have saved the food for me.

The third dish was Bee Hoon, something filling for us.

Next was Fish Maw Soup.

My favourite Salted Egg Prawn. The crunchy prawns coated with salted egg yolk were fried till golden brown, the dish has win the heart of mine.

Steamed Fish in HK Style.
I liked that the meat of the fish was sweet and tender, the down side was that it has many fine bones, so must be careful when consumed.

More dishes were added to our table - Broccoli with Mushroom, Coffee Pork Rib and Chilli Crab with Mantou. We were already full after we finished these lot of food.

Bro has a very stunned looking face after the waiter served another plate of Black Pepper Crab to our table. We took a little break and walked around to chit chat and digest the food before coming back for this black pepper crab.

The VIP aka the elder's table.

Little Xin Ru helping to clean the chair with her wet tissue. She must be a greater helper at home too.

The last dish was Teochew O-ni Gingko Nut which wasn't something I fancy. I'm not a fan of O-ni.

Vivien sis has ordered this 2 tier agar agar birthday jelly cake specially for granny. The jelly looked too cute to be eaten. This birthday cake is suitable for the elderly who doesn't like the traditional sweet dessert cake.

Happy birthday, Granny.
May you stay strong and healthy, and many more years to come.

You might be wondering why my post title indicated 80th birthday but the candles indicated 81th instead. That is because 81th is granny's chinese age.

Four generation celebrating granny's birthday together. More and more kiddos joining our big family.

Amber and Aiden looking so fascinated with granny cutting the cake.
May all your wishes come true.

Here's how the agar agar jelly cake looked on the inside.

Family dinner has always been a sumptuous one, this one is not an exception. We enjoyed having good food and gather over a meal. I supposed the next gathering will be Chinese New Year, see you guys till then.

Bachelorette Hen's Walk: Skechers Friendship Walk 2019

I participated in my second walkathon, with courtesy from Tracy who won 4 passes to Skechers Friendship Walk 2019 for herself and team bridesmaids. This year has been a fulfilling year for us, because of the big day that is coming up soon, we bonded as a team in many occasions together.

As Tracy's wedding is approaching is less than 2 months time, we took this opportunity to keep ourselves fit for the wedding. GF has also prepared a surprise for us and we met up an hour earlier to unveil the surprise.

GF got us 'Bride-To-Be' and 'Bridesmaid' sashes from her recent trip to Johor Bahru, she also made us wore it through the walk. Because of this unique idea, our walk were filled with so much fun and great memories, turning it into a hen's walk for Tracy.

Since we were an hour ahead of the activities time, we explored around Marina Bay Sands as well as the race village for bachelorette's phototaking.

Along the way, we attracted many onlookers' attention who is trying to catch the words on our sashes. The most hilarious comments that we overheard was "They were going for Beauty Pageant.", this was so funny.

Glad to have these girls in my life, from just blogger acquaintances to close friends now. Their presence have added laughter and making every events a catching up session for us.

I love this group photo the most.
#Teambridesmaids with Singapore's skyline as backdrop, featuring the iconic Marina Bay. Perfect pose, perfect background and perfect us.

The opening of game stations began at 4pm and the queue for every station was super long. After we conquered one station, we decided to give up the idea of going to all the stations which allow us to stand a chance in winning the lucky draw.

We went for the refreshment booth instead where we got Yoghurt and HL Milk from Marigold.

We ate the yoghurt immediately to cool ourselves down from the perspiration in the sweltering weather. Slurping up the cold yoghurt was so shiok.

The 4km walk flagged off at 5pm from Marina Bay Sands Event Space where we walked one big round passing by ArtScience Museum, Helix Bridge, the Esplanade, Fulleraton Bay Hotel, Custom House, the Merlion, the Promontory and finally back to Marina Bay Sands.

We met Deadpool and Spiderman along the walk, they were with us for the Friendship Walk too.
Even Deadpool was curious about what was written on our sashes and once he spotted Tracy with her 'Bride-To-Be' sash, he immediately gave Tracy's a princess hug. That day was Tracy's lucky day.

We walked along many popular sight-seeing places of Singapore, making the walk a picturesque and memorable one. Our sashes definitely make heads turn and set us different from the rest of the walkers, standing out from the crowds. Even during the walk, many onlookers made a second turn to check out our sashes.

We completed our 4km walk and were given a finisher medal. This was actually my first medal and first walk with the girls.

As I grow older, I started to change myself for the better which includes adopting a healthier lifestyle, trying to eat healthier and exercising, keeping myself physically fit.

There were some after walk refreshments for us to redeem and we got ourselves a stick of ice cream from Coolen.

Skechers Friendship Walk 2019 brought us back to old school theme, where everything was so simple and nice, even the ice cream too.

With that, Skechers Friendship Walk 2019 has come to the end.
I have a fun day with the girls and this definitely keep me motivated to join them for such walk if there is an opportunity in the future. There was never a dull moment in our meet up.

See you girls soon again.

Review: Walking With Dinosaurs Opening Night in Singapore

After 65 million years, the dinosaurs are back!

Walking With Dinosaurs – The Live Experience is based on the award-winning BBC Television series, they have roared into Singapore Indoor Stadium from now till 8 September 2019.

Walking With Dinosaurs has been seen by over 9 million people in more than 250 cities around the world. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to catch the biggest and best dinosaur show in Singapore.

Date: From now to 8 September 2019 (Sunday)
Venue: Singapore Indoor Stadium
Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes (with 20 minutes interval)
Showtime: Wed-Thu: 7pm / Fri: 3pm & 7pm / Sat-Sun: 10.30am, 2.30pm & 6.30pm
Ticket price: From $78 to $148

Ticket can be purchase from Sports Hub.

Thanks Tracy for the photos. Just nice the 4 of us were sitting in the same section (different seats), we took this opportunity for a photo.

I brought Tracy along with me for the show, both of us were so looking forward for the show. We always watched dinosaurs from television or movies, but it was our first time "Walking with Dinosaurs" at a close up.

The documentary show was narrated by Huxley, the palaeontologist, who tells the story of the greatest pre-historic creatures ever to walk the earth.

The show featured 18 life-sized dinosaurs making use of state-of-the-art technology in a $20 million production.

Walking With Dinosaurs is a must-see live arena experience for audiences of all ages, the young ones will love it especially. It showcased the nature documentary of the dinosaurs and satisfied our curiosity of how the dinosaurs behave before they were extinct. It was as though history has come alive.

The audience sitting at the front will have opportunity to get up close with the dinosaurs, get ready for interactive time with the dinosaurs.

Just like other animals, the dinosaurs can get nasty and fight with one and other if the other dinosaurs hurt their little ones. I guess that is the instinct of all parents, a natural reaction that all of us have. It was heart warming watching the connections of their familial bonds.

The fiercest fight, it got us feeling thrilled while watching their battle. It captured our imagination of the dinosaur battle.

Here comes the famous Tyrannosaurus (T-Rex) that everybody is waiting for. It is the largest and fearsome among the dinosaur species. It did made a roaring entrance.

It was an entertaining night Walking With Dinosaurs. Traces of the history of dinosaurs can be found in the show. Take some time off your schedule and bring your little kids for this engaging show, I'm sure they will like it very much.

Remember to catch the show at Singapore Indoor Stadium before they become extinct in Singapore on 8 September 2019.

Johor Bahru: Ah Yit Imperial + Choco Choco Cafe + Go Noodle House

After knowing each other for a decade, we finally embarked on our first overseas day trip to Johor Bahru (JB) together. During our last meet up in June, I suggested to go on a day trip to JB and all of them spontaneously agree.

I woke up at 6.50am to prepare myself as we were meeting at 8.40am @ Kranji Station. Despite reaching so early, the queue was madness. This was the first time I saw such a big crowd at Singapore checkpoint. The queue at Malaysia checkpoint was even chaotic. Thankfully I have chosen the lane that was in order and we managed to clear the entry before 11am.

Our first stop was to Hiap Joo Bakery which was 8 minutes walk away from JB City Square. We came here because Steffi wanted to buy their famous banana cake. However, the shop only start selling the banana cake at 12pm (another 35 minutes of waiting time), so Steffi and Adrian got Coconut Bread instead.

After getting the bread, we called for a 6 seater grab car to bring us to Taman Sentosa for lunch.

The grab fare was RM11 to Taman Sentosa.
We were spoiled with many food choices. Our plan was to order 3 pax portion of food so that we can try out the food over at 2 restaurants.

We entered Ah Yit Imperial, an atas looking Chinese restaurant.
Ah Yit Imperial is famous for their herbal duck and roasted pork. It was 12pm when we arrived at the restaurant, we were famished because we had our breakfast super early.

A group photo before we dig in. This marked the start of our gastronomic venture.
We have a new addition, Adrian, to our poly peers JB outing because he is the 地头蛇 of JB, our tour guide of the day.

JB has been one of my regular destination to visit. It is one of the places with many pocket friendly cum delicious food and best shopping places that is just a causeway away from Singapore. I always love traveling here with my friends when I need some relax time.

The guys did the ordering and here comes the food. First up was Roasted Pork and Char Siew.

The best part of the roasted pork was definitely the crispy skin, it stayed crunchy when bite. The char siew was coated with the sweet sauce that tasted savoury, it also contained well mix of lean meat.

We ordered Herbal Half Duck which was juicy and succulent, the meat was tender and we were captivated by the shiny duck skin. It is worthy to be Ah Yit Imperial's signature dish.

Next was Spicy Beancurd. The cubes of beancurd was toppled with spicy chilli paste. The beancurd was soft and paired well with the chilli, offering a savoury and spicy notes. The spiciness will stay with you for a good while.

My favourite was Salted Egg Lotus Root and Pumpkin

Every piece of lotus root and pumpkin was well coated with salted egg yolk sauce, making it a delightful treat. The lotus root was very crispy but I still prefer the savoury salted egg pumpkin. The balance between the sweet and savoury taste was perfect.

The lunch was worth every penny. The bill came up to RM145.10 (or S$48.21) for 6 pax, which was just S$8 per pax. I definitely cannot find such price in Singapore. JB is indeed a food heaven, my top choice when it comes to short escape.

Operating hours: 10.30am to 10pm daily

We were feeling so full that we decided to give the second restaurant a miss. We then made our way by foot to KSL which was 15 minutes walk away. We just enjoyed the sight of the old streets while walking towards our destination.

After getting some items from Watson, Christine, Adrian and Chan Lin began on their adventure at the claw machines. Luck wasn't on their side.

After an hour of walking, we settled at Choco Choco Cafe at the ground floor of KSL for our relax session. The guys recommended this cafe because of their Instagram worthy latte art shots.

A photo with the girls while the guys went to order our drinks. Thanks Chan Lin for treating us the drinks.

Check out the cute latte art of our drinks, we love their 2D art. Just name the character you want and the staff will try their best to have it drawn for you. If you order a cold drink, you can get a 3D art drawn.

Spending our time chatting everything under the sun, sipping our latte and keeping our phones at bay due to no internet connectivity, this made us forget about the hustle and bustle of the city life and take things easy.

That's my cute Crayon Shin Chan Matcha Latte.
I have been a matcha lover who love the lingering bitter yet sweet taste of the matcha. The matcha latte did not taste bitter because of the adequate amount of milk added.

We tried our best to drink consciously so that the latte art will not be destroyed. The last bits of the latte art before I gulped down the drink.

After the drinks, we split into 2 groups for 45 minutes free and easy activities. Steffi and I went to shopping at bakery and Tesco while the remaining went to claw machine hunting.

I got myself chocolate biscuits (RM3.79 or S$1.26).

I picked up Soothing Feminine Hygiene Wash at RM8.5 (or S$2.85) to replenish my current stock at home. Do remember to bring your own paper bag on Saturday because Tesco will charge RM0.20 on plastic bag.

We met up at 4pm and grab down to R&F Mall mall. The grab charge was RM13.

There were stage performance going on to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, so many Chang E on stage.

Because the group said that Magnum is a must eat in JB because of the cheap price, we got a box of Magnum Mini Classic from the supermarket at R&F Mall. 6 sticks of Magnum Mini cost only RM14 (or S$4.65).  Thanks Christine for the ice cream treat.

Admidst all the fanciful desserts found in the cafe, we just stick to our classic Magnum Mini stick ice cream. We do not want to go for something too full before our dinner. Dessert was now ticked off from our "to do" list.

Magnum Classic contains the perfect mixture of cracking Magnum chocolate and velvety smooth vanilla ice cream.

We then made our way to our last stop of the day, City Square, using the long connecting bridge.

It was nearly 6pm and we don't want something too heavy for dinner, so we ended up at Go Noodle House located at level 6 of City Square. Go Noodle House transported us to the ancient days with its retro and rustic interior, wine bottles and furniture.

I had a cup of Ice Milk Tea and Ban Mee for dinner. I have been eating lots of good food today so decided to eat clean for dinner. Dinner was RM18 (or S$5.98) per pax. Compared the dinner to our lunch and the price paid, I must say that the further up you go, the cheaper the food is.

After the dinner, we walked around the mall for another hour before we made our way to JB Sentral at 7.30pm to catch our train (at 8.30pm) back to Singapore. This was my first time taking the train, the ticket from JB to Singapore was RM5.

Though the journey was only 3 minutes, but the waiting time and clearing of checkpoint took quite awhile too.

Glad that the group enjoyed the day just like me, hope this will not be our last overseas trip. Let's have another round soon.
