There's no better way to celebrate National Day with a taste of our local specialties, chicken rice.
I made my first visit to The Rail Mall located at Bukit Timah Road to try New Teck Kee Chicken Rice.
The Rail Mall is so different from the mall I imagine it to be, it turn out to be a single storey stretch of shops, eateries, cafes and bars.It gives me a laid back vibe, as though I am in Malaysia.
The Rail Mall is located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, which is about 8 minutes walk from Hillview MRT station.
New Teck Kee Chicken Rice can be easily spotted as we passed by The Rail Mall.
Chicken rice stall can be commonly found in Singapore because chicken rice is one of our national dishes, but Truffle Chicken Rice is definitely something rare and is now available at New Teck Kee Chicken Rice.
The eatery has a casual setting that makes us feel homely as we entered. Not only do they serve chicken rice, there are other delicious dishes available such as omelette, beancurd, soup and vegetables that is moderately priced.
The staff was preparing our order.
Here's what we have ordered for our late lunch.
The giant plate of Truffle Chicken Rice has definitely stole the show among the other dishes with its instagram worthy presentation, the truffle chicken rice was only just introduced a few months ago. The truffle aroma immediately filled the air when it was served, we can't wait to dig in to the food as we inhaled the truffle smell while taking photos.
I had Calamansi Juice to ease my thirst from the scorching weather.
The giant plate of Truffle Chicken Rice ($23) is worth ordering if you are going in a group of 4 (big eater) to 5 pax (small eater). The giant plate comes with a combination of roasted and steam chicken paired with fragrant white rice, cucumber and tomatoes.
I personally preferred the the roasted chicken as I love the juicy glistening skin. the chicken was also succulent and soft. The truffle oil added has enhanced the taste and fragrance of the chicken rice, it was indeed flavourful. I like that the truffle taste was not overpowering which did not result in losing the authentic taste of the chicken rice.
Another point worth mentioning is that chilli sauce accompanied with the chicken rice, it was a great pairing to the dish with its spiciness and sourness.
We had Shrimp Omelette ($9) for sharing. Cutting open the omelette, we could see the generous portion of shrimp filled in it. We cleared the plates within minutes and it was the first plate to be emptied.
We added Chinese Spinach Vermicelli Soup ($8) for a healthy element to be included in our meal. The soup was light and nourishing with the natural flavour of spinach, red dates and vermicelli.
The last dish was Deep Fried Tofu ($8). The edge of the fried tofu has a light crisp and the interior was soft and chewy. I dipped it with the chilli sauce for enhanced taste.
A group photo is a must for our gathering. From left to right: GF, me, Tracy, CK and Jas.
Thanks GF for sharing the photo.
Another group photo before we left New Teck Kee Chicken Rice, this time round with our masks on. Wearing mask is the new norm and we are kinda of getting used to it.
Last but not least, thanks Dawn for introducing us to New Teck Kee Chicken Rice. We enjoyed the food very much. Visit their Facebook Page for more information, delivery is available too.
