Happenings in February - Chinese New Year 2019 + Marriott Cafe + Rolling Rice

Monday 4/2/19

Happy Chinese New Year (CNY) eve.

It's a 2.5 days work this week, I ended my work at about 1.20pm and was last second to leave office. I received a sudden request at 12pm and the request need to be complete by that day. Hence, I was held up a bit at work.

Happy year of Pig, we have reached the end of one zodiac cycle.

Time has past so terribly fast.

I headed home to rest before the start of our reunion dinner.

It's not easy to find dining places on CNY eve without price markup, so we prefer to cook and eat at home.

Still remember last CNY, she wasn't even born yet. 

Wednesday 6/2/19

I woke up by the sound of the lion dance troupe. As usual, my mum would welcome them into our house. My uncle's family came over to our house for dinner in the evening.

Our first round of steamboat during this CNY, it's our yearly tradition to have steamboat once a year.

CNY is the time to celebrate the festive, gather with family and loved ones. I went to eat in the first round.

The kids can went really crazy when they played. It was nice to be young where you just play your heart out with no worries.

Friday 8/2/19

We welcome the weekend with a hearty lunch at Marriott Cafe, it was also our tradition to have something good to celebrate CNY. My last visit to Marriott Cafe was 8 years ago with my ex colleagues.

Welcoming the twelfth of all zodiac animals, Piggy.

Their chubby faces are signs of fortune, may this year be a fortune year for me.

We specially requested for lo hei, it's a must have during CNY. Here were the items I took, I love the flavourful dish maw soup.

There were live station of either noodles or pasta, I opt for Aglio Olio. The Aglio Olio was a spicy one, the fire sensation slowly kicked in after gobble down the food.

Dessert is what I looked forward most during buffet time, I love the strawberry fondue and the different variety of ice cream. I have a sweet tooth.

Saturday 9/2/19

I met up with Linda in the afternoon to catch a movie at Suntec City. She went back to office to work in the morning and I was afraid she couldn't make it for the movie. Thank goodness, she arrived just in the nick of time for the movie.

After the movie ended at about 3pm, we went our way to Marina Square for to have late lunch. We initially wanted to go Just Acia but the place has already been closed, so we settled for Korean food instead.

We went Rolling Rice where their hot selling signatures were spicy topokki and baby rolls. The price we see in menu is the price we paid, net price. Rolling Rice offers free flow of water and sides which includes seaweed soup and kimchi.

I love weekend outing because we can heart to heart talk without time constraint.

We all have our own struggle, sometimes we feel better letting those sufferings out. Hope bad times will be over for us soon.

I ordered Crispy Chicken Roll at $5.90.

It looked delicious, but a little small though. It is something you can order if you are not looking for something filling.

The bite sized crispy chicken was wrapped in the baby rolls, coat it with mayonnaise or chilli sauce for extra flavour.

I received a bag filled with snacks from Linda. Thanks for the advance Valentine's Day gift, it made me feel loved. So lovely of her right?

Monday 11/2/19

Today is ren ri, the 7th day of the lunar new year. I have my third round of lo hei to celebrate this special occasion.

Lo Hei is a must have during ren ri, the day of creation of human beings.

My third lo hei, may this year really be a huat year for me.

It has been 3 years since my last bowling, we played 2 rounds of games. It was nice to play once in awhile though I am not really good at the game.

Happenings in December - Peony Jade + AXN Ultimate Year End Bash + NYE Outing

Friday 12/12/14

Since Christmas is approaching, my group decided to reward ourselves with good food for our pre-Christmas lunch. They have selected the venue at Peony Jade Restaurant @ River Valley Road. They are having lunch buffet at $43++, you can order as many dishes as you want.

We started our meal with Szechuan hot and sour soup.

The soup was really hot and spicy, I didn't manage to finish the bowl of soup.

Sashimi.

Out of 8 people in the table, only Guo Hai, Taiyee and I eat sashimi. The rest of them don't like eating it raw.

The only plate of dim sum served in the buffet.

Cereal prawns.

Though we didn't order much, we felt full after eating all these dishes.

Mango sago for dessert.

Vanilla ice-cream. 

Another way to eat this is to put the ice-cream inside mango sago, it tasted delicious.

Saturday 13/12/14

Spent my Saturday night partying at AXN Ultimate Year End Bash. The party was held at M2 Academy, Orchard Gateway @ Emerald. Thanks GF for bringing us to the party.

One of the AXN’s offerings is "The Voice" that will premiere on 17 Dec 2014 at 8.05pm. "The Voice" is an American reality television singing competition.

The main highlight of the show is the coach chair. 

If the coach is interested in an artist, he/she will press the button and the chair will turn towards the artist with the words "I want you" lights up.

Wednesday 31/12/14

Chill over at Marina Square on New Year Eve afternoon after we ended our work. We had our lunch at Xin Wang Hong Kong Café. A place where I love coming frequently. Instead of ordering main course, we decided to order some side dishes to be shared among ourselves.

We have French Toast with Ice Cream.

This toast alone is very filling. I remembered having this once for lunch and I couldn't finish the toast.

French fries to dip with curry sauce and mayonnaise. Interestingly, the curry sauce is the one we always have for chicken curry.

Last but not least, siew mai.

We felt so full after eating so we took a stroll along towards Marina Bay Sands. When passing by the floating platform area at about 3pm, lots of Big Bang's fans were already queuing up, hoping to get a good spot for the stage show despite Big Bang only come out at 12.30am after the fireworks. I kinda of regretted that I didn't bought the ticket early. When I want to get, the tickets for $28 were all sold out. I want to watch Big Bang performing live. 

Everytime I pop by Marina Bay Sands, I will stop to take a photo of the beautiful landscape. I lost count of how many photos I have for this particular scenery.

After hours of walking, our legs were tired and we were feeling thirsty. We wanted to find somewhere to rest and have something cooling. So we have mango pomelo sago at Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert to round up our day. It was a nice gathering on last day of the year.

Fatty Choo International Steamboat‏ @ West Coast Plaza

Usually I am quite depressing on Sunday because of the pre-Monday blues syndrome, but that Sunday has become enjoyable when I started my day with my lovely companions for buffet lunch at Fatty Choo International Steamboat‏.

Fatty Choo International Steamboat is a restaurant located in West Coast Plaza and is the one of the rare eat-all-you-can steamboat buffet restaurant you can find in the west.

The restaurant was opened on 2nd June 2014 by Singapore's very own celebrity chef, Chef Choo. He was the Former Executive Chef of Rendezvous Hotel Singapore. Best known for his vast experience and exceptional cooking skills, Chef Choo brings over his expertise in creating a sumptuous spread of Singapore’s Favourites to your palate.

 Chef Choo had been featured in many publications of i-Weekly and newspapers, and even as being the guest chef in the popular Chinese TV Programme “Love On The Plate” 名厨出走记.

The restaurant has a nice and cosy setting

There are 4 different types of soup base that you can choose from - Tom Yum, Chicken, Bak Kut Teh and Japanese Bonito.

The soup is free-flow per table, you can ask for refill of soup.

Yuan Yang option available is you want 2 soup broths selection.

I like Tom Yum soup the best, followed by chicken soup. The Tom Yum soup spiced up my appetite immediately after my first sip down. It gave a spicy and sour taste. So shiok.

Moving on to the steamboat ingredients next.

Buffet also includes Fresh Cuttlefish balls, Crab balls, Prawn balls, Chilli Fishballs, Fuzhou Fishballs with Chicken Fillings, free flow of Thinly Sliced Beef (Shabu Shabu), Chicken, Chicken Sausage and Luncheon Meat.

Fresh Sashimi and prawns are available too.

Sashimi was our favourite.

Wow, there was even a rojak station (Self-Serve counter).

If you are a lover of snow crabs, remember to come to Fatty Choo International Steamboat‏ for dinner because it is only served during dinner.

Indulged ourselves in the wide buffet spread of over 50 items.

The prawn, beef and pork meat balls were all freshly handmade from the kitchen, they tasted so good.

A must have for every buffet.

More and more items coming.

Our self-made rojak that was on par with the market standard outside. You tiao together with the peanut sauce tasted awesome.

The restaurant also featured the famous Singapore Laksa with condiments.

I had an enjoyable time with the girls eating and chatting away.

We were eating all we can.

Ready cooked food like pork belly and sambal fish were being served too. 

We found Char Siew Pau too.

The steamed bun was very fluffy and soft, the char siew was delicious and not too sweet.

Moving on to dessert.

We had tried the famous durian pengat. For a non-durian lover like me, I find the taste still quite bearable, you can give it a try. For durian lover, this was definitely something you cannot miss.

Free Flow of Ice Cream (Tutti Frutti, Green Tea, Blueberry Ripple, Lemon Sherbet, Chocolate Chips and Vanilla.

Rounded off the buffet lunch with ice-cream. No matter how full I am, I will always leave a room for ice-cream. I really love to eat ice-cream.
